My goodness, I so agree!!! David looks at himself so much and not the camera. I also can't stand the way he always has his finger up to his lips. What is that about?

@jackthebear - Please don't confuse posters with the facts!
I wonder how many people could do the job the hosts do? Listening to vendors, listening to the producers talking to them through their earbuds, watching the monitors for information about the products, trying to speak themselves.
But, yes, of course they're just admiring themselves in the tv monitors! "Mirror, mirror on the wall, who's the fairest of them all?"
This complaint is as old as the hills.
Agreed! I went on a Q tour years ago and we were told that the monitors have informtion regarding sales numbers, what is coming up, etc.
They are not admiring themsevles! LOL!

Obviously the OP has never been in a studio audience, watching everything that's going on simultaneously..
Not only is there a camera on the whole set, but there are monitors that have all sort of information to check, including how many more minutes/seconds left before they have to move on to the next item.
Checking how much time is left allows them to decide what else they can say about what's currently being presented.
Years ago, I recall a host looking at the monitor and saw that on the set, behind her, one of the garments on the rack had fallen onto the floor. She immediately turned around, picked it up and re-hung it.
The monitors also allow them to scan the whole set and see if anything behind them is amiss.
You're right ... It isn't just about vanity.

No, they are looking at everything.
If you were looking at a monitor that scanned the whole set, and you were in that set, are you saying you would be able to NOT ever look at yourself? I doubt anyone could do that.

I have been watching John and have never heard him speak over a vendor or check himself out, so maybe he is improving. As someone else said, especially as a new host, I would be very self conscious checking to make sure I looked okay and also maybe a liittle nervous seeing myself on TV.
Amy S checks herself out, SK, CK and all the ones that feel they need a costume change during their shift. I like AS as a host far more than others, but at least call it out on all of them when it is this obvious. She has to pop her foot into what we used to call a "dig" in tap classes; her little pop her foot pose shifting her weight back and forth is annoying and she does this while watching herself. The regulars have no excuse. I do not see the always professional hosts Jayne B, Leah, MBR or Pat doing it.
But as noted many times I also believe they have displays, counters, timers and all kinds of things in front of them we don't see that they are watching as well.

It can be hard. The camera, and reflections are all around. Sometimes they aren't looking at themselves, they are looking at the wrong camera, as there are several.

I think its important for th hosts to know how they look in the clothes- to talk to us about how the fit feels etc. Im not bothered by this at all

When they present a product the host should be looking at us the customer. Instead they look at themselves at the tv in front of them. Watch David Venable looks at himself all show. Really where are those buyers in the camera not your front tv.
Looking at themselves at the TV in front of them? Don't you realize there is a LOT of information on the TV monitors? It's not just shots of the stage behind them.
Depending on what's being shown and how many things are to be presented, a host might be talking and looking to see how many allotted minutes or seconds are left before they have to move on to the next product being shown.
The monitors probably also show how many items have been sold, or what colors are now gone.
Really .... They aren't just looking at themselves. There's a lot to keep track of while a show is being filmed.
