Congress is notoriously slow at keeping up with technology. That's what happens when most of those people are over 60. And I'm way over, so that's not meant to offend anyone.

To those of you who have seen one of these items cut open, just how much resin to gold was there? Was it mostly gold with a tiny amount of resin, or the opposite?

As far as using the resin to make the item more solid, I don't buy that notion. I have plenty of non-resin gold that is old and non-dented. Obviously, it's a way to sell "gold" jewelry cheaply. I'm afraid what you end up with is resin jewelry with a coating of gold.

On qvc they say the gold has resin in the middle because it makes it stronger. I don't believe that because I bought gold in the 70's and just up to the last few years. So how did it stay strong enough to last a life time

Exactly! I think the ACTUAL reason for doing this is so that they can just spray on the teensiest tiniest possible amount of gold over the resin and sell it as 14k (which they should NOT be able to mark it as!) for way more than it's worth.

I'd be interested to know what the actual weight of gold is but then I'd also be willing to bet that the amount is so miniscule there would be no weight measure for it.

I bought gold then, too, but gold wasn't over !000/ounce then, so pieces were heavier. Even them I had to sell some rings for their gold weight because they could not maintain themselves. I do have some lovely pieces from those years though, enough that no matter what happens to gold prices and weights, I'm not thinking of buying more. I have enough for me.

I personally wouldn't buy it....if you wanted to resell your "gold", how would you be able to do it if it's filled with resin?

One can't sell it for gold weight as likely there are only microns of gold coating the resin. It would probably not be cost effective to try to separate the gold film from the resin.

This type of jewelry is pretty but like other costume, its best to purchase it for its attractive appearance rather than monetary value.
