We can give hearts to comments we like. Be nice to give 'don't agree' to comments we don't like in the form of 'x's'. That way you disagree with a person without calling them out and starting a big deal leading to a poofed board.
Just a thought.

No, LOL. You ever read the Amazon boards? There are people that downvote everyone no matter what is said. If you have too many it removes your post. (*eta* from view only, you can click on it to view) They call them the DVF (Down Vote Fairies)
I have no doubt it would be the same here and people would still post with their opinion.

I think it would only add unnecessary negativity to the board.

An X is too easy --and X's would soon become the pennies of the boards. Negative Nellies would just toss them all over the place.
Of course, if we had those X's, I would have used it instead of writing this response.

Like everything has good and bad points I guess.

True, misuse would be rampant IMO. Of course I'm guessing there might be less if you can see who X'd you.

Yep. You have the "meanies" and the "angels" and they downvote each other's posts to hidden. You can't assume that if there is the potential for abuse, something won't be abused. And downvoting a post doesn't mean there won't be negative posts - Amazon is proof of that ;-)

Not sure that would make any difference, except it would encourage those X'd to call out their X'ers - not a favorable addition ;-(
Plus, if QVC gave the power to X, complaining to QVC that so-and-so Xs you all the time, make them stop would not be very effective at stopping abuse of the Xs.

I like the hearts. I wouldn't want to do away with them. However, I'm thinking a "thumbs up" or a "thumbs down" option, which is opened (or not opened as it would be their choice) by the OP, might not be a bad idea. It could be used if the OP wanted to gauge the board's "pulse" on something. I have no idea how difficult this would be to implement, (oh, maybe it is not even be feasible) but @SharkE I think you have hit on something. I am usually interested in knowing how things are trending. It would add another dimension to the boards.

IMO giving X's would be boring, I actually want to know what people think when I post something. If you don't agree and I tick you off I want to know why. Because we don't know each other and are not invested in a relationship we are able to be honest in our responses without having to fear any type of retaliation.
