You would have to ask QVC why your card was denied, but I strongly advise you NOT to use your debit card on any internet purchases because it exposes your card information to additional risk of being stolen.  If that happens, the purchases made by unknown people will come DIRECTLY out of your checking account.  At least with a credit card you have the ability to fight the inappropriate purchases with the card company.  Hope this makes sense.

I just use my debit card locally for groceries, gas and other in-store local purchases.  Everything else is on the credit card.

@Another new name Sue  I use my debit card for all my purchases.  It is covered just like a credit card.  My bank (BOA) immediately reimburses me for any breech of my account.  There is no reason for denying credit just because of it being a debit card.

@Kachina624  The bank will reimburse you but OP mentioned they were on a fixed income. If you don't have sufficient funds to cover what might be erroneously charged before you find out, anything that comes through will not clear, or they may cover one or two and charge a fee. In the case of checks, returned check fees on both sides will also be charged. Automatic payments will not clear. That could be utilities for some people. It's just a mess. Even with overdraft protection, those erroneous charges will go through with overdraft protection and some banks charge for that transfer depending on the account. Why deal with all that?  It is taking longer for the banks to clear up the mess from what I hear.

Best to have a credit card not attached to your banking. And everyone needs to check their bank accounts everyday if possible.

I've never used a cc or a debit card w/QVC.  I've always paid by check.  Have you considered doing the same?

I agree with you, Reba, and you've made some good points.  In the long run, the debit card holder will be ok as the bank covers erroneous charges as with a credit card, but how distressing to have to deal with that shortage in the checking account.  Kachina says BOA reimburses immediately, that's good if they do, but it's just better to be extra-safe and keep the ckg acct. from theft.

I would never pay by check.    CC's are much safer.
