I was shocked at how long a tirade aimed at Albany lasted, that was terrible.........

Re: DELETE AND DO NOT PERMIT POSTS CONCERNING HOSTS

Some posters seem to be "fixated" on how boring the boards are and continually referring to posting about kitties and the weather in a very sarcastic tone, which is not appreciated by some of us.

Just because there are a lot of posters here who actually DO enjoy posting about pets and the weather from time to time, does not mean they don't also enjoy some good debates as well (whatever they're about, hosts, or anything else).  And if some posters who complain about how boring the boards are spent more time here and actually participated in some of the more "active" and "intelligent" discussions , maybe they wouldn't find it so boring....

Because some of the QVC hosts are promoting themselves as 'celebrities' instead of salespeople selling products, they are opening themselves up to controversy and discussion, both positive and negative.  To only permit positive comments or to eliminate all postings regarding the hosts is censorship.  Unless a posting is particularly offensive or hateful, all opinions should be allowed on these boards.  IMO, not all negative comments are "host bashing".  I don't consider a comment about a host wearing something unflattering or putting on weight or acting unprofessional to be "bashing".  Yes, some of the comments have gone over the line, but I don't see that as being the majority.  If any negative comments about the hosts is so upsetting to readers of these forums, then simply don't read them, don't comment on them, don't acknowledge them.

THere is absolutely NO need to talk about a host's weight. None. It serves only to hurt that person. You don't think the host KNOWS he/she has gained weight? Does he/she really need to be reminded or critiqued for his/her weight when it doesn't (or shouldn't) affect their ability to do their job. You have no idea why they are gaining weight (e.g. medical issues, etc) and there is no need to discuss it. Period.

I am glad QVC removes those types of post. If an adult can't be mature enough to forgo the unecessary commentary on someone's weight then yes QVC should step in. It really is a shame it has to come to that.

ITA. If this were any other venue, there wouldn't even be a discussion. When people become public figures (which by the way, is much better than how most hosts used to refer to themselves~as celebrities!) they open themselves up to criticism or gossip. There used to be a forum section called "Q did what?" That was a place, one place where consumers could voice a question, observation...good or not so good, frustrations, etc. regarding a host, program content, or products. The personal info some of the hosts share is so much more than necessary. I think they are encouraged to do this as a retail tactic to make them seem as if they were our friends; and we are all just sitting around someone's living room having a gathering and sharing as friends do. But they are not our friends. They are at its most basic description, salesmen and women. It's not just QVC, they all do it but, I feel that here it's the worst example compared to other
networks. With that said, I don't want stiff robot like behavior either. There needs to be a balance where these hosts are friendly and human but where they don't tell us every little thing in their lives, almost to the point of narcissism. "They" do this, some more than others and it makes me feel as if the viewers are fans of these people. It's not a talk show, they are not celebrities. Yet when we...the customers respond to an observation; it's suddenly inappropriate? Where does that line in the sand get drawn?
If a poster used out right profane content, IMO there is no question that should be removed. As well as delving into their personal lives past the point
that any host had already put out there. Some share way too much than they should or behave not as a professional but, as a character. And then there are those who are not taking their jobs seriously. Acting like a life coach in one sentence and a teenager the next. Some go on & on adnauseaum about their fancy vacations, beach homes, even the size of the diamond in their engagement ring! And, that is appropriate??? There's a huge double standard between what hosts brag about or the intimate info they share. That needs to be reinvented and fair to viewers.
There should be a code of conduct for the hosts just as there is one here
regarding our observations, and; comments in posts. There is a one way standard now, making any opinion by viewers other than all sweetness and light, either inappropriate or unkind. QVC needs to come down to the level the rest of us are and be realistic. There would be no QVC without the viewers.
I wrote a post in the very first few days of the new forums regarding a certain host and my observation of the hosts lack of information on the product, and that hosts obvious adolescent like behaviour. I posted it late one evening...about 10:30pm. By the next morning it was "proofed" when I asked the mods, "why?" Some told me don't challenge the mods. I wasn't! I was asking with honesty, a simple "why?"
The mod wrote a word in my post was of unacceptable and unkind content.
REALLY? Since the OP was gone along with several comments from other customers, I never got to see what other posters opinions were. I racked my brain to think of what the unkind thing I could've said. And it finally dawned
on me....it was a simple word that described a behavior by a host that in ernest made said host look "juvenile" and insulted the viewers intelligence as well. After all, this form of retail programming is the most public way of
selling there is!
QVC wants to mold us into a commonality with no perspective of content and behavior other than what they want said. And that fellow consumers, is an example of the most banal form of censorship. It leaves me feeling quite unsettled and insulted. If my opinion is not pulled, that would show a glimmer of hope & respect for the consumers as a whole.

Ok, then also stop all the hosts blogs about family and friends. If it's a life changing moment to uplift one sprits, that a good thing. Posts about vacations and daily routine moments should be save for friends and family. I think being in the public eye most are used to the comments postive or otherwise.

I agree, dump the blogs and facebook as well.  Who cares?  These people aren't your friends, they are just doing a job.

It's not like people can mind read when someone is going to go on an irrational host rant, sure some of them are obvious from the thread title but many times it comes up randomly in an otherwise positive thread. And there no ignore feature anymore.

Spoiler

I don't agree with you op. Then the host's shouldn't have blogs and so on. They shouldn't be on TV, if they don't want to be talked about. (good or bad)

Re: DELETE AND DO NOT PERMIT POSTS CONCERNING HOSTS

The most nonsensical suggestion I've seen today...

Criticism without snark is possible and without it they don't know (not that they care) what we're seeing.  Moreover, the boards have become quite sanitized enough, thank you.

Re: DELETE AND DO NOT PERMIT POSTS CONCERNING HOSTS

As adults I believe we are perfectly capable of making posts that are constructive without bashing if criticism is warranted. No one is perfect.

Also, I thoroughly enjoy posts that celebrate and applaud hosts, and would be disappointed if these were no longer available.

Many hosts choose to share so much of their lives willingly either on the air, via social media, or both. It's out there!
