Re: CLEAR OUT OLD THREADS ON FORUMS

I often search old threads for information I've read in the past, so I'd hate to see them made inaccessible.

And occasionally an old thread is reopened appropriately for an update on a subject of interest that appeals to a limited group.

Such as a gardner commenting on something planted 12 months earlier, or a poster with a chronic illness updating their health status periodically.

Unfortunately, I frequently find the old threads that are reopened are bashing, gripeing, ranting type threads.

Re: CLEAR OUT OLD THREADS ON FORUMS

I don't think they should be deleted, I think it's up to us to pay attention to the date of the original post, so we are aware of what we are replying to. I think it'd be a shame for some of the threads to be deleted (no matter how old) since there are some that have really personal or touching moments in them that might need to be re-read if the need arose. I think the mods do a good job deciding which threads and comments to delete, but "old" shouldn't be a good reason to be erased.

Re: CLEAR OUT OLD THREADS ON FORUMS

I agree with keeping old threads, but closing to comments. Compromise? If new information comes out, maybe the old thread could be reopened, or just referenced with a link in a new thread. Leave it up to the reader, if they want to go through the entire old thread.

Eventually, some threads may have to be deleted, to save space on the server.

Re: CLEAR OUT OLD THREADS ON FORUMS

At least archive them.  You have to dig deep to pull up a thread from 2yrs ago.

Re: CLEAR OUT OLD THREADS ON FORUMS

If you're searching for something specific, you can pull up an ancient thread without even realizing it tho. @qbetzforreal
