CLEAR OUT OLD THREADS ON FORUMS

All too often I find I’ve replied to a thread that may be 3 yrs. old. Can there be a time limit and then some of these cleared out?

@Shanus I agree with you but then some days we have nothing new here....It will look ghostly.

I agree that the older threads should go.

I don’t agree on all forums. For example, i think it’s nice being able to find older Recipe Forum posts. Also when planning a trip to a particular location it is helpful to search the Travel Forum for that location and read all the old posts about it.

AMEN! and the mods need to tell somebody DIRECTLY to quit posting pics, cartoons, animal snaps any place other then Pet Corner.

People, seem to have trouble with reading the left hand column of forums

available to start a new thread in.

Offenders, don't get the point unless you treat them like children and call them out. Would save everybody time if they got the point the first time and

not keep on putting dog and cat pictures in Kitchen area, etc.

Yeah, boards are getting boring.

Re: CLEAR OUT OLD THREADS ON FORUMS

Forum majority wanted old threads to remain.  There was a survey asking specific questions about the forum, majority ruled.  It's been a while, maybe four years ago.  Not sure of the timing.  The forum is run based on this survey.

I would vote to keep the older threads.

I always check the dates of the posts in a thread before responding. You can't always go by the date one was started. It may have continuing comments and by keeping the thread available to view, you can read the various information without having to start all over again with a similar thread.

Our Travel Forum started out as a single thread that went on for nine months with people responding continually. We then got our own forum. The moderators kindly allowed us to keep that long, long original thread in our new forum because of the valuable information in it. It is read/view only; cannot be commented on.

Not long ago someone requested information on Australia and I referred them to that long-ago thread where @Alter Ego chronicled her trip there (winter of 2016?). It was full of photos and very good suggestions, tips, and information for future travelers wanting to go to that country/continent. Her daily posts are too valuable to relegate to cyber space, never to be viewed again.

The person asking for Australian information was treated with instant suggestions/tips that were very detailed, without having start the conversation all over again. We were able to retain the information.

There used to be a commercial for EF Hutton that went something like: "When EF Hutton speaks, people listen." Well, I feel that way about @Alter Ego: "When @Alter Ego posts, people learn." Smiley LOL

Thanks so much to the moderators or whoever it is/was that lets us keep the old threads on various topics on this Board that are valuable to many. Heart

Edited to add: I am really enjoying the thread that @Sweet_Serenity started last October about Plant Based News in the Wellness Forum. It would be a shame if that thread was to go away when/if people stop commenting on it. There is valuable information that so many people have shared and I would hope to be able to access it in the future if I ever decide to embrace that way of eating. A lot of wisdom has been shared by people who believe in it as a way of living.

Do NOT get rid of old threads that have stopped being commented on.

I would vote for keeping the old threads BUT having them closed for commenting after 3-6 months with no new replies.

Re: CLEAR OUT OLD THREADS ON FORUMS

To the OP, why not just make it a practice to check the date on a thread before replying to it? IMO the mods have enough to do here, as mods and as customer service people, than deleting old threads.  What you reply to is well within your own control.  It can be your own responsibility to realize which threads are outdated.
