I don't care for the posts done in all caps or in all bolded letters. It's just not necessary, but I don't let it bother me much. It depends on what the poster is saying, and if it sounds like they're a pretty decent kind of poster on a regular basis, I just assume that's how they like to post. I'd rather read something relevant or nice or thoughtful or thought-provoking in bold than to read some of the garbage that is posted with correct grammar, punctuation, etc. However, I do wish people would at least use a period or two, or maybe a comma, when they post a long paragraph. I'm not sure if they do that on purpose just to make people have to try and figure out what they're saying, which doesn't start me out on a good note when I'm trying to read it.

That said, there is one place where I post in bolded letters, and that is if I have something to say on the Pictures of Cats thread. Usually it's all pictures, but once in a while, people make comments or talk to each other about their cats. If it's a brief comment, which can tend to get totally lost among all the pictures, then I might bold my comment so it can be seen. I usually want the poster(s) I'm talking to to see it, so I do make brief comments stand out that way.

It appears my thoughts on the subject were poofed... brief though they were. So let me rephrase in a way that, perhaps, won't offend anyone's sensibilities, however delicate... Personally, I don't view ALL CAPS as being a significant enough problem to warrant extra monitoring and/or the cost of additional software to isolate and address the matter when it crops up. Yes, that some use ALL CAPS religiously is annoying, but not, to me anyway, a glaring issue. Sorry, OP, that it bothers you so significantly.

Sorry to disappoint, but it had nothing to do with *my* sensibilities. I was as surprised as you were, since I had done nothing. It did make me smile, though :-)

Never assumed or suggested you'd done anything... And smiles are always good. 'Sensibilities' can apply to any reader who can hit 'report' or to webbie ,who sometimes has an itchy trigger finger, so no assumption was made as to who did what to whom, and really, in the big scheme of things, it's not important. All caps and/or all bold are not appropriate, but I see neither as a serious problem. If they're offensive, as was noted, there's always the option of not reading them.

I don't like all caps because it is difficult for me to read. Didn't know it was considered "yelling" until I came to these forums. (I wasn't schooled on a computer and only learned to use one this year, self-taught at that, so I know I am guilty of many sacrilegious behaviors.)

Often I use bold for emphasis, because we can't use voice inflection or tone when making a point, and I thought that was more or less what it was for. I was copying the behavior of others on this forum. My bad, as I don't know what else it is used for.

I like bold because I can see it so well. Sometimes the typeset/font on here is very difficult for me to read, especially on longer threads.

Now that I know it bothers some of you, I will try and be more careful in using the bold typeset. I do wish my pc would keep a larger font, but when I reset it, it never holds for long.

The one post I can't read for long is when a person does not use capitals or punctuation.

I just can't keep up with that, so that's a guaranteed unread thread for me.

I agree, the only person we can change is ourselves. But our opinions have the potential to offer a view others might not have thought about, and it might be something they decide to change for themselves.

I have a problem reading posts in all caps or completely in bold font. I hate to say, often I skip over those posts. It's pretty well established in typography research that most people have a harder time reading all caps or text that's completely bold. Of course they're good for emphasis, but they're meant to be reserved for that special use. Otherwise, nothing stands out and it appears to be shouting.

I don't mind the bold as much as the caps, but that's my middle-aged eyes. As someone else said, I tend to do a tl;dr thing with long posts in general, and long posts that are all caps, all bold or without punctuation I usually skip over, with some exceptions.

Hello, moonchilde. Smile

I'm not trying to put down your suggestion at all. Just saying that some people type in all caps because they have a little trouble reading text.

{#emotions_dlg.scared} Yes, I found out from a poster that she posted in all caps for that very reason.

REALLY COMPLAINING HOW PEOPLE TYPE, OMG GET A LIFE! SOMETIMES IT'S JUST EASIER FOR SOME PEOPLE TO SEE WHAT THEY ARE TYPING. I THINK THERE ARE MORE IMPORTANT ISSUES TO COMPLAIN ABOUT.

I've read a few people state that, and the same for a few who type in bold all the time. But my question is - how do they read all the other posts? Or do they just read their own?
