DH and I always watch the Derby.  My pick "So Happy."  We're disappointed that Chicago no longer has a thoroughbred track now that Arlington will probably become the Bears new home.

Right to Party is out. He was my choice to root for as one of the horses to come out of the final derby prep race to ever be held at Aqueduct. I'll move on to Albus for that. And So Happy because I have to cheer for Mike Smith.

Otherwise I only just looked at the past performances so no actual betting decisions have been yet.

Secretariat blazed his way to the Triple Crown in 1973, capturing the holy grail of thoroughbred horse racing in the United States — and cementing his legacy as one of the greatest racers ever, and most certainly of the second half of the 20th century.

Wish I could have petted him.

Yeah...I worked in Arlington Heights, IL at that time.   Euclid Ave was lined with folks waiting for Secretariat to arrive.  (The horse came by truck).  It was always quite an "event".    Of course, I joined the crowd.

@silver Goldie. I like horse racing too because I love horses, however, people on this board can't hold a civil discussion about it without getting into ethics.   Most know little about horses or how much they love to run.   Horses are accident-prone and many more are badly injured or killed every year racing each other in their own pastures than in races.  They run into fences or trees or kick each other.
