It's game day!!! (The second of five (so far) this week.) We were supposed to have two exciting games today, but the NFL in their all-seeing wisdom decided, "You don't deserve two games on a Saturday, so we'll move the Raider/Browns to Monday at 5:00 PM where it's inconvenient for everyone! Ha! That'll teach you!" Sure, they blame it on Covid, but it's not like Covid's going to disappear over the weekend. Nope. They're just upset we weren't grateful enough to have two games on Saturday. Oh well.
We still get the Colts/Patriots game tonight. (Go Colts!) If Carson Wentz survives the first quarter of the game, it'll give the Colts' first-round pick to the Eagles in the 2022 NFL draft thanks to the terms of the trade sending Carson to the Colts. I'd love to see the Colts win and get in the playoffs and do well.
The Sunday schedule lost the Eagles/WFT game and the Rams/Seahawks games which are both now being played on Tuesday night. Lucky Eagles, they now get to play three division games (WFT, Giants, WFT again) in just thirteen days! Eagles players foolishly stayed out of trouble over the bye and stayed healthy while the WFT was a bit more casual and lost 23 (or so) guys to Covid. All the NFL chatter back in July of "We're not postponing games this year! You need to keep your team healthy!" seems to have been forgotten. No one seems to know what will happen if multiple Eagles' players come down with Covid on Monday. Does the league delay things yet again or do we now have to forfeit despite being ready to play on Sunday?
So, at this moment, we have the Colts/Patriots tonight. Most of the planned Sunday games on Sunday. Two games on Monday (Raiders/Browns at 5:00 PM ET and Vikings/Bears at 8:15 PM ET.) Two games on Tuesday (Eagles/WFT and Rams/Seahawks both at 7:00 PM ET.) If the health of teams doesn't improve we could see more changes yet. The league's "we're not postponing games this year!" mandate has been thrown out the window.
I'm annoyed as I was planning my lucky meal for Sunday's game. We've won every week when I've eaten this meal for lunch on a game day and do I still eat it on Sunday or postpone it to Tuesday? Curse you NFL! You make everything so complicated!
Speculation is that the WFT has dirt on good old Roger Goodell which is why the NFL suddenly abandoned their "set in stone" Covid policy of not moving games. The league also reviewed a gazillion emails from the WFT and managed to only find issues with those sent by Jon Gruden who wasn't even on the WFT. Uh, okay. And the league, which has been known to give detailed reports on every investigation they've ever done, decided, "We don't need a formal report on what happened with the WFT more or less prostituting out cheerleaders and trading nude photos of them, or the endless harassment of other women in the organization. It's all in the past. Bygones and all of that." For a league that released an enormously long and detailed report on ball inflation (or lack thereof) regarding Tom Brady, the lack of a report into the WFT investigation is odd.
Oh well, it is what it is. At least we still have one game tonight.
Fly!!! Eagles!!! Fly!!!
