Re: NFL News and Notes for May 2021!!!

[ Edited ]

Although the WFT line is in flux at both tackle positions with new players starting....the line is pretty solid, ....According to PFF WFT's Roullier was ranked 10th for centers. The only two centers with a higher pass-blocking grade were Linder (Jags) and Tretter (Browns).

@teganslaw

On one Podcast there was a discussion of WRs and former Colt and Redskin, Pierre Garcon's name came up.... The comments were the way he played the game was so impressive, he wasn’t afraid of anything, a WR with a LB's mentality. They said they miss him....

And in the never too early department.....Here's a mock draft for 2022:

The WFT moves up in Round One of 2022 Draft. They trade away the following draft picks:  This first-rounder, the second-round selection, 2023 first, third, and seventh-round picks.

Sam Howell, Quarterback, North Carolina

Howell has a strong, accurate arm on long passes and Washington’s recently upgraded receiver corps has plenty of speed to haul in those deep bombs.  If you want a solid quarterback that is able to effectively run a play-action pass, then Howell is your man.  He has a quick release for slants, screens, and short/intermediate routes.  The talented Tar Heel can do run-play option (RPO) as well.

Areas where Howell needs to improve include taking needless sacks, lack of rushing skills, reading through his progressions before leaving the pocket, and staring down his primary receiver.  Four of these concerns are correctable and Howell has already demonstrated various levels of improvement.  His lack of rushing skills will likely never see a change due to his lack of speed.  Overall, Sam Howell will be a great choice in the first round.  Fitzpatrick could be signed for another year next season while Howell learns all about the NFL.

And the WFT's 3rd round draft pick Dyami Brown gives a rousing endorsement of Howell---

Brown said--“Man, he’s amazing, you know. He’s definitely one of the best. I’ve seen him put in the work, put in the hours, and watch him, and we, you know, put in hours for ourselves, but that guy right there, he’s the one. I believe he can be a Heisman pick and could be a first-round, number one pick as well. “

Re: NFL News and Notes for May 2021!!!

@Spurt

God only knows who the Eagles pick next year. We'll have at least two first-round picks and possibly a third one also. The pick from the Colts (if we get it) should be a later in the round pick. I would guess 24 or later. Our own pick should be somewhere in the middle of the first round. The Dolphins pick is interesting. They were 10-6 last year. They've got a fairly brutal start to their schedule. Their first five games are against the Patriots, Bills, Raiders, Colts, and Bucs. It's not hard to say a 2-3 start might be their best-case scenario and an 0-5 start isn't out of the question. The games against the Patriots and Raiders are the most winnable but both are also road games. Three of the next four are pretty winnable with games against Jacksonville, Atlanta, Buffalo, and Houston. That could get them up to five wins if they got two to start with. Then they've got the Ravens, Jets, Panther, and Giants. Other than the Ravens they're pretty winnable. Another three wins there? Up to eight wins with four to play? Then they finish with the Jets, Saints, Titans, and Patriots. Two or three wins there? Finishing up with somewhere around 10-12 wins?

So, we'll likely have three first-round picks, but all later in the first. It would be nice to have the first, second, and third picks in the first round, but barring an unprecedented collapse by the Dolphins, Colts, and Eagles, that's not likely. We're more likely to start picking somewhere around thirteen or fourteen and then a pick or two later.

The Lions have to get Penei Sewell's head in the right place. They're moving him to right tackle which he hasn't played before and instead of accepting it as a challenge and talking about having fun with it, he's expressing doubt about the move. If a player doesn't believe in his ability to do something, he won't be able to do it. They're going to have to really work on his mental space to be sure he's mentally ready to play right tackle.

Re: NFL News and Notes for May 2021!!!

Just 15 weeks now until the first regular-season slate of Sunday games!

This will likely be a busy week starting around 4:00 PM ET Tuesday. That's when teams can start moving money around to next year and that's when a lot more players will hit the waiver wire or be traded.

The Eagles are reportedly looking into trading for Julio Jones. The smart money is still on him going to San Fran, Baltimore, or the Patriots, but the Eagles are apparently at least interested enough to give him a look-see. Would he want to come to Philly? I don't know. We have coaches with wide receiver backgrounds who are generally fond of wide receivers and who their wide receivers typically like. That could help land him here. He's had bad experiences in Philly though. Darius Slay is working on recruiting him. (Darius is part corner/part GM. He pretty actively recruits guys to come to play in Philly.)

Could we see a QB or two get moved this week? Yeah, I would think one of the two (Rodgers or Watson) will get shuffled off to a new home this week. Denver still seems the most likely landing spot for Rodgers and either the Dolphins or Eagles are mentioned for Watson. The Texans and Packers have been loading up on spare QBs, so both teams seem resigned to letting their star go. Letting this situation linger just causes chaos, so getting it resolved soon is likely a high priority for both the Packers and Texans. You don't want to go into camp without your QB situation squared away.

And speaking of spare QBs, the Cowboys are auditioning anyone with an arm to try and upgrade their backup slot. They may end up adding a guy in a trade if all else fails. A guy like Nick Foles might be pretty cheap to acquire about now. The Bears have Foles, Andy Dalton, and Justin Fields. That's one more veteran than they really need as a backup QB. As a rule, teams carry their starter, (likely Justin Fields for the Bears,) a veteran backup (likely Andy Dalton,) and a developmental kid (the Bears don't have one right now, but they're literally a dime a dozen. Every college team had a QB.)

This is going to be a pretty interesting week.

I guess since the Aaron Rodgers fiasco has died down a bit with Aaron posting vacation photos, the Julio "adventure" has taken over the media spot to fill time until more NFL newsworthy topics come up.....😄  Now the Titans have emerged as the favorite Julio landing spot....but they also say, dont rule out the Patriots....🤔

As for the Cowboys and a backup QB....whoever he is Jerry will present him as "the greatest" discovery and sure to elevate the Cowboys already potent offense...🙄

Re: NFL News and Notes for May 2021!!!

Pierre Garcon is an upstanding guy and has contributed to different charities. He was also a good player for all the teams he was on.

I don't want Julio Jones going to the Titans. Even with a good defense I don't want to face him twice a year. Julio Jones and Derrick Henry together? No thanks.

The Cowboys have a good offense; it's their defense that's questionable. The acquisition of Micah Parsons helps only if he can stay out of trouble.

If Dak goes down currently the Cowboys would have to rely on Garrett Gilbert, Cooper Rush, and Ben Di Nucci....no matter who they have at WR, TE, RB, or on the o-line...they'd be in trouble..The FA list isnt impressive

And they'd have to make a trade for Foles, and the Cowboys don't have much cap space left and the Bears knowing the Cowboys are desperate would try to soak 'em....

As we wait for the key June dates to come around you can search around and find Ryan Kerrigan's "oscar winning" debut as an actor in the hit movie series for the Syfy channel, Sharknado , It's #3 in the series released in 2015....

(Hey TEGAN, Kerrigan is a Muncie, Indiana native). This is from an interview in the "Indy Star". Ryan Kerrigan became a popular figure in the Washington and Northern Virginia area, not only with his play on the football field but his outgoing personality.  He's read poetry to women on Valentine's Day. He's conducted man on the street videos asking Redskins fans about, well, Ryan Kerrigan. He's portrayed a sales associate at a local sporting goods store, trying to sell his own No. 91 maroon jersey.  Now he's an actor in Sharknado 3...................

SHARKNADO 3 : OH HELL NO ! / MUSIC VIDEO - YouTube

 Kerrigan plays a NASA technician. The space connection is somewhat fitting because he attended Purdue, home to numerous astronauts. His role – stopping a shark attack. Far fetched, yes, but this is Hollywood. Protecting America from flying sharks spewing out of a waterspout ranks up there with sacking Tony Romo. Both bring reassurances to citizens the world is a safer place.  "Hopefully, my part doesn't get cut," Kerrigan said. "I don't think I'm a very good actor. I don't think I have a future. It was a blast."

Re: NFL News and Notes for May 2021!!!

In an interesting twist, it appears the Eagles and Bears had a deal in place for Nick Foles to come back to Philly as the backup, but Foles said no. The Eagles then signed Flacco instead.

Ryan Kerrigan is an interesting character. I'd like to see him have a great year this year.

WOW on Foles declining a deal for him come back to the Eagles....was he upset the way the Eagles ditched him in favor of Wentz????? Jalen is still a bit of an unknown and Foles might have started out as a backup but there was a chance he might have taken away the starting job from Hurts ........He's kinda in a limbo status with the Bears he has to be on their roster in 2021 through 2022 to pick up a combined 12 mill....but if he's cut?????

I heard Kerrigan chose 90 as his number, since Fletcher Cox wears his old number 91, and his Purdue number 94 is also taken.... Well I hope Kerrigan does well against the Cowboys Ill cheer for him on those 2 games Woman Very Happy

@Spurt

I don't know what the deal was with Foles. Word of that just broke today. He was reportedly the Eagles' first choice as the veteran backup but he said he wouldn't report if traded to Philly, so the Eagles went with Flacco instead.

He could have been annoyed that the Eagles let him leave. His contract may have needed to have been restructured as part of the deal. Maybe he thinks he has a better shot at being the starter in Chicago or someplace else. I don't know. Maybe he feels he's done all he can do in Philly. Maybe he's annoyed the Eagels fired Doug Pederson. It's an interesting thing to hear though. I'd have assumed he'd be happy to be back in Philly, but that's not the case.

You can also root for Kerrigan when we play the Giants. In fact, you can root for him against everyone but the WFT. I thought the WFT didn't use him enough last year. I'm pretty sure the Eagles will use him enough.
