A pair of ankle boots I really like is only available in 6.5 or 6W. I am a regular 6 and have been for decades. If I wear a thin pair of socks would I get a better fit w 6W or 6.5? I've never worn a 1/2 size or a WIDE so I don't know about the fit.

MANY THANKS for any information!

If you wear a size 6 and ONLY have the choice of a 6.5 or a 6W, know that the 6.5 will be longer in the toe box and the 6W will be looser on the sides....choose your poison, LOL!

I hate it when I find a great pair of shoes, but the available sizes are just a little off.

If they are boots, consider what type of sock you might wear with them.  I am a 6 1/2 and often go to a 7 for winter boots because I wear thicker socks with my boots verses the socks I wear with shoes.  Hope that helps.

@ellaphant   I guess it would depend on your foot shape.  Mine is a normal width, but my feet sometimes don't seem to fill out the front of the shoes when wearing sandals (if that makes sense) so I would probably go wider and wear thicker socks.

If you toes fill out the front of your shoes, then go up the 1/2 size with the thicker socks.

I am a size six too.  I would buy the 6.5 and add a thicker insole or a small pad on the ball of the foot area if they are a little too big.

Woman do this often when one foot is a little larger than the other one.  My daughter worked in a shoe store when she was in school, and she taught me this trick.  Some shoe stores will also tear out the insole and add a small felt toe pad to the shoe and Re-glue the insole back in place for you.

Order from a site with free shipping --- to you and when returning. Zappos; clarksusa, etc. This way u could try ur size and if they don't fit properly, return and order a little bigger - or wider. It's hard to buy shoes on-line --- as sizing is always inconsistent.

Not a risk I would take online.

If you're going to do it, get both and send one (or both) back.  Otherwise it will take you until the cows come home to get the right ones.

Just buy your regular shoe size, the size you know you wear.  Unless, of course, you like the idea of returning things.
