I have had issues with cork and rubber based heels in the past. Now I just steer clear of this type of shoe/heels. I have several pair of Danskos and after reading this post will take them out of the storage boxes.

@kittyloo I wear Danskos every day for work, so they aren't stored in a box. Since you said that you bought the shoes on eBay, maybe the person you bought them from had stored them for too long. Maybe it isn't the shoe but the seller? I've never had a problem with my Danskos, and I've been wearing the brand for years.
I get compliments all the time on my most recent pair of clogs. I got them from the Dansko outlet online. These shoes were $45 off and in perfect condition. I think they were probably the last of this color or something. You might want to check out that site since it's a Dansko site.

Sounds to me like manufacturers have found a way to save money on the shoes construction and also to ensure future sales. Its like everything else that is not built to last.My dh has shoes that are 20 years old that have no issues.I would return or at least try to return any expensive shoes that fell apart so that the manufacturers would know the construction is unacceptable.

I also had a pair of white mountain clogs fall apart right on my foot and I had a leather strap just come right off a Clarks sandal while walking. I don't abuse my belongings so there is no excuse for this. I think it's terrible that we pay top dollar for these shoe brands and are no longer getting a quality shoe. They are so adamant about making money, how about just making a quality shoe????? Once again, thank you China![]()

This happens with various brands of shoes, mainly there are two problems. Poor glue that holds the upper to the shoe base is one problem and the second is injection molded shoe soles that deteriorate over time. And shoes sitting in a box can rot but it's so random. I've had that happen to me with sandals and clogs and from different brands too.

While this never happened to me, I and millions of other viewers saw it happen during a college basketball game. In the first 30 seconds or so in a game between Duke and North Carolina, one of Duke's star players had one of his shoes explode which caused him to incur a knee injury. The announcers were almost speechless, no one had ever seen anything like that take place. There is probably a video online so you can take a look if you're interested.

I have had this happen to me about 9 times in the last 3 months. I store my shoes in boxes with the little packets that comes in the boxes and that did not help at all. It happened with my clarks sandals and clogs (shoes with the backs out), my stride rites and my frye boots. I got rid of all my clarks sandals and purchased new ones and all my other shoes including heels and am now replacing them a few at a time. I wish QVC would require the shoe sellers on their shows to let us know the best way to store our leather items (especially shoes) to keep them from exploding. Maybe we should store them in dust covers like we do our leather handbags. My leather bags I have had for over 25 years are all in great shape.

Not Danskos, but I've had that happen on two identical pairs of Clarks shoes. I was so sad, because they were the most comfortable work shoes I've ever owned and I would have filled my closet with them if they didn't have that flaw.
