@wagirl - do you have a "Good Feet" store near you, if so you might see if they have orthotics that would work for you instead of having to schedule with Podiatrist.

@debfau ---yes there is one a ways from me and have thought about them-----but this dr actually did some surgery on my achilles tendons so I have some history with him. and, he is about 10 minutes away from me. thanks----

@wagirl wrote:I have been having a wretched time finding walking shoes that feel good--never had feet issues in my 67 years until these last few months--- I thought....I was a size 8 medium----but had my feet measured at a local New Balance store and good godfry!!!!!! My size is 8 1/2 !!!! All my shoes are size 8!! I must have the worlds wackiest pair of feet---one foot is flat, the other has a high arch, narrow heels, between a medium and wide width, normal" ball" width--that is new to me---- and then for an added twist, have a big toe with arthritis in it------was on a mission to buy new sneaks even paying the $180 that the pair of shoes I tried on was priced--but they didn't feel good either. Guess I will pay a visit to the podiatrist for orthotics before I get new shoes---can you say---CHA-CHING !!!!!
What do you mean by "scanned"? How was this done?
I'm very surprised that all your shoes are the same size, since shoe sizes vary by style etc etc.
Years ago in high school, I wore only a size 7 shoe, but I think most of my shoes and sneakers (remember Keds sneakers with the little rectangular blue rubber label at the heel?) were made in the U.S. Now I have shoes ranging in size from 7 to 8 1/2. Each pair fits well, regardless of the size the label says. They are made in various countries.
I hope you'll give an update on your podiatrist visit .... I'm not sure the doc will suggest orthotics. Orthotics don't work for everyone.

@Tinkrbl44 ---I wore a size 7 in high school--had babies and went to the size 8. and stayed there until now--yes all my size 8's fit me fine too , never went up or down--but now am 67 and the ravages of old age-----
have attacked my feet.
As for the scanning---I was in my sock feet and standing on a platform where a machine scanned my feet from the bottom all the way from toes to heel so it measured the width, length, depth --then got a pic of it--nothing painful and it took a few seconds--didn't cost me anything either.
Foot dr said to try good shoes , do some stretches, go to my chiro and come back to see him. He also made some half circle shaped foam heel inserts to put in my shoes--have to say, those are worth their weight in gold---and he said I was 1 1/2 inch shorter on my right leg so that was a reason my right hip was so painful and I walked so wonky---yes, no orthotics yet, if ever, need to do all the above things first. so when i've accomplished all that home work, I will see him again
