Waterproofing shoes? Alegria and others....

So I just bought the summer surprise or one day only whatever it was of the alegria Mary Janes..they are leather. Have you sprayed water proofing on your alegria shoes to protect them a little from the rain etc? What about other shoes? Do all leathers get sprayed with water proofing? Boots and such?

I wouldn't tamper with the finish on Alegria shoes.  They don't need it.  If they get dirty, just wipe with a damp cloth or paper towel.  I have many pairs of fabric shoes like Sketchers, Easy Spirit, and Ryka and I do spray them, more to repel dirt than for waterproofing.  I have at least a couple dozen pairs of Alegrias and they don't need spraying.

I bought these in Waxy Black and I don't plan to do anything to them.  I will usually spray suede leather only because they will pick up dirt and I want them waterproofed as well, but I don't do anything to my smooth leathers and they hold up fine and I'm able to wipe the dirt off.....

So you don't spray leather boots and such either?

@ReneeinOhio@Q4u@Kachina624I Scotchguard white outer wear and all winter foot wear (yes, suede) and have no water problems.

@ECBG. In my area it's the lack of water that is a problem.    Alegria shoes are made from very sturdy leather and don't seem to be at all delicate.  However, many have an unusual specialized finish quite unlike other shoes, and I'd be afraid to spray the chemicals on them that are in the waterproofing.  One could call CS at the official Alegria site and ask.

I don't, I don't see the need.... BUT I do use a good leather conditioner on all my smooth leather, which helps keep the water and dirt off and conditions the leather.  But as stated the Alegria shoes are made with special finishes and the pair I just bought won't absorb the conditioner so I won't be doing anything to them.

BTW, if you develop a squeek in your Alegrias, take out the inner sole and shake some foot powder or talcum (gently) inside and replace your inner sole.  It usually will get rid of the squeek for awhile.  If you still have the squeek, apply again.... Woman Happy
