What are your opinions and experiences with the Snow and ice cleats items?  Do they really work and are they worth the expense?

Yes they do work. I have great confidence when wearing them.

I've used YakTrax Walkers for several years to walk my dog on icey sidewalks. It's the best $20 I've ever spent! Found mine at ******'s Sporting Goods.

Yes, they do work. There could be a layer of black ice that you can't see under snow or can't see well because of poor winter lighting so those things you can put on your shoes can be helpful.

Yes, the Yak Traks work well but I find them hard to slip on and off my shoes while I'm standing up, like before I go into or out of the supermarket.

Yes, I believe they do help with traction, though I still tread carefully.  No running for me anyway.  :-)  I can't take them off or put them back on while standing up, so I make a bit of clicking noise as I walk through the grocery store.  It's really not that bad, so I just ignore it.

@lynnebeme  - I walk in the wintertime and I wouldn't go out without some type of ice grippers on.  I've used YakTraks in the past, but now have a brand sold by LL Bean (Stabilicers).  I like them better.

I have had many different brands and found them all to work great and well worth it.  You can also put these little footie socks over your shoes and it works fairly well also.

I don't recall the brand that I currently use (haven't got them out yet this year), but I wouldn't be without them!  I've tried both styles (the ones with cleats and the ones with coils) and found them both work quite well for my needs.  I've even given them to my mail lady and newspaper lady to help keep them safe.
