I'm 60 now and have worn a size 11 AAA-width/AAAA heel shoe since I was 12 years old. I have had a total of 5 pairs of shoes I've actually purchased in a store. The rest of the shoes I've owned over the years have had to be custom made. Speaking from experience, I can honestly say that it's terrible to have feet so far outside the norm in size. It's almost as though I've had some type of deformity. I wish with all my heart that shoe manufacturers and retailers would realize that there ARE some of us out there with unusual feet and that we'd like to be able to purchase shoes without extensive expense and hassle.....(not to mention the embarassment of the 'good ole days' pre-internet when I'd have to physically scour stores in the big cities, hoping for a stray pair and fielding the pitying glances of the sales people). Granted, I wouldn't expect there to be numerous styles available, but at least a few basics would be nice.

This is where the internet is your best friend! Without moving from the chair in front of your computer, you can shop for shoes in your size from multiple vendors. Zappo's, Overstock, JC Penney, Nordstrom's and many others enable you to shop for shoes online. In most cases, you can use a filter so that only choices available in your size are shown. Some have shoes all the way up to size 13 or 14. Easier than ever to find what you're looking for!
