Rubber tipped heals

Do any of you take your new shoes to a cobbler to get the heals changed to a nonskid rubber ? I just hate those cheapy plastic tips on heals...and those are dangerous...last thing I want is to slid on a terrazzo floor...why do companies make those nasty plastic tips!
