Question about Brahmin Claudia Melbourne strap

I got very lucky last week at Macys and found a Brahmin Claudia Pecan Melbourne on sale for 70% off!!!! My Macys doesn't carry Brahmin, so I have a feeling it was a Christmas gift return from a Macys that does carry this line. I paid 57.37 for it!!! Love the bag.

Question is, it comes with a long stap that looks like it can detach, but won't? I don't want to force the snap open. Is there a way to do it? Does it even come off?

Thanks for anyone that can help me. I prefer the shoulder strap off when not using it.
