Ostrich for spring?

I was admiring a faux ostrich tote in a store and another admirer said, "Ostrich is perfect for spring, isn't it?" The tote was a deep taupe color and I was thinking of buying it and wearing it now. Is ostrich and its faux only worn in spring and the warmer months?
