I need a new pair of winter boots. Have never really had a pair I've really loved.
I find them too hard in the sole, and feel clunky.
Just wanting a simple winter boot, good for not slipping on snow and ice and comfortable.
Any tips? Favorite brands?

Sporto. They're comfy, many of the styles are waterproof (not water resistant), and they last! Last winter was mild, but the winter before I think we had snow on the ground for weeks at a time and I simply lived in my sporto boots.

I have two pairs of Merrell's Decora Chant that came out last year (I think) and since we have snow unusally 7 months out of the year, this investment was really worth it to me.
You can find them on sale onSierra Trading Post. Initially $190, now running $89.99. They are Waterproof and Insulated. They're light enough for me an have great traction. I had a serious fall several years ago and falling is not an option for me, these are wonderful IMHO but ice is ice so you still have to be careful. I think they're attractive and can be worn all day if you want to..... as you can tell, I really love them.
I also have a gunga pair of Keens, for the day DH and I have to head out in 10 below, with 5 foot drifts and fend for ourselves.... I like those too, but rarely wear them, they're warm, comfortable and would meet my hiking needs (LOL!) but totally impractical for me....
Good luck.... where I live, decent boots are everything.....

@Q4u - good point on the ice. I have a couple pair of yax trax that are life-savers in ice. I keep a pair in the car and a pair in the house.

LL Bean. 99.9% of their winter boots are waterproof.
Also, check out A284915. Cute & waterproof.

Timberland-
This is my go to winter boot- feels like a sneaker, no break in required.
We think of our Willowood women's winter boots like armor. Fully insulated, with sky-high lace-up styling, these waterproof boots defy snowdrifts, slush puddles, harsh winds and icy sidewalks, and easily complement your cold-weather fashion sense.
One or more major components contain 100% recycled polyethylene therephthalate (PET), the plastic used to make soda bottles.
OrthoLite® comfort foam insoles provide moisture transport, antimicrobial function and long-term cushioning. The ultra-breathable material won’t break down or lose cushioning over time, keeping your footwear comfortable and supportive.
PrimaLoft® ECO insulation is crafted from synthetic fibers including a minimum of 50% PET (from recycled plastic bottles) that form a dynamic insulation structure. These compression-resistant fabrics maintain loft and retain warmth, even when wet.
Our waterproof leather footwear uses waterproof impregnated properties that become part of the leather during the tanning process. We also either seam-seal the footwear or use an internal waterproof and breathable membrane to help feet stay dry.
One or more major components use at least 50% leather tanned in a facility rated Silver or higher by a third-party environmental audit. The Leather Working Group judges and classifies tanneries based on energy use, waste production and water treatment.

Uggs! I have had mine for 10 years...and they still look good!
Very comfortable fro day one (no break in time). Warmth beyond any boot I've owned and your feet don't sweat. The 100% lambs wool is such a wonderful natural insulator. I treat them with a spray water repellant and they're good to go for the whole winter.
Just love them❤️👢❤️

I'm very happy with the pair of ABEO Galena black suede boots that I bought last January on sale from The Walking Company store in Las Vegas. They are lined in real shearling and they have a removable shearling insole as well. I went up to a size 9 in them as I have a higher instep and thought the size 8 was snug. I don't wear socks with them either. They have broght them back so you can look in store or online.
