Until you try a Dooney nylon bag you don't realize how much nicer it is than the average nylon, not that there aren't other nicer nylon bags available. Whether the designation 'Italian' is marketing hype or not, there really is a difference!
Exactly stevieb - I was very happy when I purchased a Dooney nylon satchel, I didn't expect the nylon to be so nice!

It is a bit like soft canvas, takes color beautifully, and is very stain/soil resistant. I have two, one in a fuschia I used for almost a year and it looks like new.
Also, regular nylon (like windbreaker nylon) will collapse when you set it down; this has structure but is still soft and lightweight. The perfect material for those of us who love Dooney but can't handle the weight of a heavy leather bag.
Calling it Italian, even if it is, really tells the customer nothing about its properties though.
Thank you so much author. I am so torn about ordering the OTO with the flowers and white leather trim that was on Dooney on Saturday May 3. I couldn't justify the price for nylon (and they said on the show that it was Italian nylon). I love the bag! I have it on check status. Your comments help. Yes, I agree with you. The hosts and vendors need to give more information and tell us WHY this nylon is different. We get so little information from presentations. It's all the same hype.

Author, that was a beauty of a bag. I'm not one to get the florals or other novelty type bags, but if I was, that one would be near the top of the list. Dooney's nylon is a definite cut above. Hey, all of their bags are pricey, so why would their nylon be any less so...?

Their nylon bags are beautifully executed and substantial and as much worth the cost as any of their other offerings. I say if you get it, enjoy it! I loved it in all the colors, but was especially drawn to the yellow or the blue. As far as it goes, I didn't think the price was too bad and especially if you get it at the OTO price.

I own two bags from the D&B Wayfarer collection in nylon. They are 9 or 10 years old and look like new. They are not the typical nylon you would think of like duffel bags. They are thick, soft and wear & clean like a dream. I own the feedbag & the top zip satchel.

Nylon is nylon. Even if Dooney's is thicker and has a different sheen, it's still nylon. American nylon, Chinese nylon, all nylon can be made thicker and made with a different sheen.
Again, nylon is nylon. It all has the same chemical structure. Granted, Dooney nylon may be of a high quality, but that don't change it's structure. The Italian's don't have a secret formula of which I'm aware.
