How Would You Replace a Zipper Pull?

Just wondering...a zipper pull broke off a favorite handbag that I've had a couple years. It can't be put back on. A friend suggested just sticking a safety pin through the metal loop on the zipper for now, but that looks horrid. Any other ideas? Thanks!
