TJ Maxx has a Gianni Notaro backpack on their website right now, it's camel and bone. This is a beautiful bag I saw it in the store a few days ago. Hope it helps in your search.

Thanks for posting about the Notaro bag on TJX. I just snagged one (almost sold out) free shipping. Also looks alot more lightweight than Gili.

Re: GILI convertible backpack has arrived!

I hope G.I.L.I. will consider constructive criticism. I loved the idea of the leather backpack but the execution did not measure up.

1. I was extremely disappointed withthe brown color chosen for this bag. I can only say my first response was how cheap the leather color looked. That was my 1st impression and I could not convince myself anything different. It was not a british tan it was just a cheap looking brown.

2. The crossbody should have a separate strap. having two dog leash connections going over the should is uncomfortable. D & B made a mistake with a thin strap on the larger florentine satchel which makes it almost unbearable to carry for very long crossbody.

3. I liked the suggestion to have a detachable handle. I think that would be functional and cute.

4. The flap should be lined with suede. The flap will endure a great deal of stress and the suede will add body to the leather (allowing the flap to lay correctly) and strength.

5. The needs to be a latch of some sort. I have carried leather backpacks as bags and as book bags . The latch is essential to prevent the flap from coming detached while walking and in a crowd it is just a bad idea for fear of theft.

6. For all the bags in the G.I.L.I. line: Consider copying the quality of the florentine tasssels of D & B. the thicker strips of leather with the green suede are a necessity for large tassels to last for years with heavy use of the bags

7. I hope G.I.L.I considers improving this bag esp. with the quality of the leather and coloring. Please consider the Bottega Veneta browns or D.& B browns.

Wow, I just got back from having a manicure. The young receptionist (20 something) was gushing over my GILI convertible backpack. The color, the leather and the versatility. I must be more hip than I thought I was! Her comments made me feel good about the purchase even though it IS out of the box for me. There's just something about another person's affirmation about a decision that somehow adds to the confidence of the decision. So far with the bag, so good. I've not tired of it yet and it still looks good.

I'm happy you like your backpack. And I regret not bringing it with me to Europe!!! I traveled with Florentine Vachetta Satchel which is a bit heavy and hard to carry crossbody and I brought a smaller MK bag which is great but not ideal for my organized trips to Prague and around the sea coast in France/Spain.....

Re: GILI convertible backpack has arrived!

Did anyone order a Notaro backpack from TJs? Quick shipping but was very over-priced at $180 plus tax. Soft leather but a very weak handle. Thin thin straps and tabs of leather holding the rings. Loaded up the stress pulled at the tabs. Not usable as a backpack due to drooping/squooshing. Bottomless pit, only top drawstring access, a tiny flap on top and no outside pocket or even a second zip entry. Returned.
