I don't understand why QVC doesn't offer an option when ordering a Dooney Florentine leather bag. We should be able to choose either smooth Florentine or pebbled Florentine. I can't tell you how many times I had to return a Florentine bag because I kept getting pebbled. After so many returns, I stopped purchasing Florentine bags here at the Q because of that. I think QVC should look into this matter. If I wanted pebbled I would have ordered a different Dooney style. Plus the price you pay for the Florentine leather is higher.

Re: Florentine Leather Choice

I don't necessarily blame the Q any more than I'd blame any other retailer for sending what they have. I think the question might well be why Dooney doesn't use one or the other leather exclusively with this line. After all, if you order from any other Dooney line, you know the texture of the leather you'll be getting. With this one, unless you buy in person, you're at the mercy of someone else selecting a bag to ship to you.

Re: Florentine Leather Choice

I 100% agree with this. It's not like some jewelry gems where each gem is different. There is a clear, significant difference between the two different types of Florentine leather. I have a black florentine dooney and I have never even seen the smooth one in black. Does it even exist? Is one better than the other? The smooth one I have in crimson just seems better quality.

Re: Florentine Leather Choice

I think there are advantages to both. While I prefer the smooth because it just looks elegant and classic, the more mottled finish seems to wear better. Yes, smooth does come in black, though I agree the preponderance of black I've seen seems to be the more textured finish. My Clayton in black is essentially pretty smooth and it's a beautiful bag. It would be nice if they simply offered a choice of smooth or textured Florentine leather and made them separate lines, so those of us ordering rather than buying in person could have our choice. I don't, though, see that happening. As has been noted, the best way to guarantee the finish of your choice is to buy in person.
