To our experienced D&B trade-in forum friends: Does the Dooney you are trading in have to be purchased from a retail store or from Dooney.com -- or can you send them a Dooney made specifically for QVC or a Dooney purchased at one of the Dooney & Bourke outlet stores? I wonder if they take all D&B bags, regardless of where they are purchased?

Edith ... they take any Dooney. I have even sent in bags I purchased through ebay. They do not care where it was purchased .... as long as it is a genuine Dooney is all that matters. They do not even care about the condition of the bag.

Re: Dooney Trade In......How to?

The address for the trade in program is:

Dooney & Bourke, Attention: Trade-in-Program 1 Regent Street Norwalk, CT 06855

You will receive a letter from Dooney advising you of the trade-in-value of your bag. You have 30 days from the date of the letter to call Dooney directly and place your order. It might be a good idea to know in advance what new bag you want to order because at times I have not received the letter until 2 weeks after its date so the time I had to place an order was cut in half. If they do not hear from you they return the bag. Once I've placed my orders it takes about a week to receive it.

How about gifting it?

Re: Dooney Trade In......How to?

I see absolutely nothing wrong with using the trade in program to get a new bag because you are tired of the one you are trading in. There is no reason not too. as far as selling them rather than trading it you will be hard pressed to get 50% of your purchase price selling it that way. I have taken a couple of bags to,the upscale consignment shop where I bring my clothes and received 25% of my purchase price. These were bags in mint condition carried less than 6 or so times.

That's right Sunshine Kate. It's a courtesy program designed for those who have damaged bags NOT a promotional program or another way to order when you're just 'sick' of the bag you already own.

I have to respectfully disagree. I have sent several bags in that were in mint condition... I just was not using them for one reason or another.

Well, OK...if the rule is for the bag to be damaged, anyone can easily make some damage to their bag and then send it in for the credit....Problem solved! But what's the point?? If D&B accepts any bag, then apparently it's allowed!

I see you people don't get the point. It's wasteful and shameful to send a perfectly good bag in to be destroyed but if it doesn't bother you in the least then go ahead.

I could never do that to save a few bucks besides all the hassle as was described above. First you have to wait for their letter and reorder from a limited selection (which I consider their site limited) in a limited amount of time.

Just save the money for the bag you want and then once you get it you will have two.

We, "people", do get the point. But it's exactly the same issue as the one with QVC return policy - it's THEIR policy. No one is "breaking the rules" here. They definitely have their own agenda in mind by doing that, like being able to write-off some inventory and minimize their tax liability.

Now, whether or not it's wasteful for someone, that's their own business...they don't harm anyone by replacing one bag with another simply because it's ALLOWED by the retailer.

I do save up my money to purchase anything I might want because I refuse to pay interest on my credit cards. if I cannot pay for something in full when the bill comes in I don't purchase it. You are absolutely correct ... if I saved the money to buy a bag and did not take advantage of the trade-in-program I would definitely have two bags .... one which I do not use. That would also be wasteful.
