Makes sense. My local humane society sends out requests once in awhile, but I've never seen a request for shredded paper. I will call them to find out. Goodness knows we get enough junk mail to shred so we could definitely supply some.

I'd be embarrassed to say how many I have but yes, I keep my shoes in their original boxes.

I do for suede and nubuck materials.  Not so much for the rest of my shoes.  I have more shoes than should be allowed by law.  I won't get rid of them because I know they will come back in style!  Tall boots are must for keeping the box too.

@Roscoe the RascalI have a twenty pair hanging rack inside my closet door.  That still doesn't do it because the rack is only good for heels.  Flats/wedges have to go the closet floor and it's a mess.  This is not to say my attic isn't a mess full of shoes either.  It's bad.
