Color, Color, Color

Help - I ordered yesertdays TSV that beautiful new croco bag. It is my FIRST D&B bag. I couldn't resist as it appeard to be the first touchable crock with that beautiful lock. The problem - I had a hard time with the color. I wear a lot of black and I fell in love with the cognac. I ordered the taupe b/c they kept saying it was a neutral. Can you wear cognac with black?? The taupe looked brown. Does anyone know? Thanks for your help.
