Of the brands I've posted, I only have experience with Softt, and Onex (most comfortable air like) quality shoe ever.  I mean ever....Ecco shoes and sneakers are touted for their support, however sizing is wild.  They don't let you purchase a true half size.  It's European sizing.  I have never owned a pair of Birkenstocks.  I know they are popular with women of all ages though.

Naot, Aeterex and Comfortivas are other comfortable brands.  It seems to me that comfort brands are finally beginning to give us great style along with the comfort factor (all of this being subjective of course).  A leather footbed is one of the best you can buy.  I prefer leather footbeds with cushioning.  So nice and smooth on bare feet.  You do get what you pay for.

Practice good foot hygiene.  That starts with washing your feet and how you dry them.  Dry your feet between the toes immediately.  Never air dry your feet.  It causes the fungus for athlete's foot to arise.  Wiping the inside of shoe won't fix athlete's foot. It will freshen them up if you don't ruin the footbed.   Also wearing the proper covering with the proper shoe.  Wiping the outside of a shoe when dirty is of course a very good idea.
