Okay, I'm an old lit major who reads much into "signs," names and numbers, but I was stopped in my tracks a few minutes ago when I landed on the QVC home page. QVC is debuting a new brand of footwear, Mephisto.
Gives me an uncomfortable feeling. I have cut and pasted Wikipedia's take on the name, which is:
"Mephisto or Mephistopheles is one of the chief demons of German literary tradition."
I do not like demons.

🤔Hmm, that is strange. Wonder why they would choose that name?

Doesn't bother me.

Mephisto brand of shoes has been around for a long time. I don't have any, but from what I've heard, it's a good brand. I choose for the name not to be a problem for me. Actually, never thought of it as a problem.

It reminds me of a movie I had seen many years ago. It dealt with the occult.
The Mephisto Waltz

See, it bothers some and not others. The company must have run the name in studies to see if it would work. Apparently, it was a "go."
"Mephisto" is short for "Mephistopheles," I believe, and he did not corrupt souls but appeared before those already corrupted.
Still, why not call the shoes "Divine" or something more inspiring?

LOL The devil is in the details! I just checked -- the shoe costs $259. That is the part that will burn your credit card.
Day1128, I have never heard of them before. I guess they are old news and doing just fine without those who fret over their name.

I have had about three pairs of them. I don't care what you call them, they are excellent shoes! Those and Ecco.

I bet it's because it's not as intriguing.
