I just got my new Riding boots and need advice on protecting them (water, etc)
I did some reading and it seems some protectors clog the pores of the leather and cause the boots to be really hot when wearing. Then I read that natural protectors (Bees wax etc) are better.
What do you all use to protect yours and keep the leather supple?
Thanks

There are many products that will do the job. I hated the way the weather in central NY treated my boots and shoes. Ice, snow, slush, and salt were very damaging. DH who had experience in the Army would keep them clean and shiny. It's a lot easier down here.

I will be curious to see the responses. I have lots of boots from short to tall 'riding' boots, but I do not ride. So, I do not treat my boots I just wear and hope for the best.
Due to the expense I often think I should protect them, but I have yet to do so.

There are conditioners you can buy for leather and good old saddle soap for a good cleaning. You can spray and protect suede. I'd read the directions before spraying leather.
That military shine is done with paste shoe polish and water (not spit). I used to have to do that to my stylish black oxfords and handbag when I was in the military.

Thanks all....
I live in So Calif, so my only weather issues are dry air and rain. The boots are black smooth leather.

I lived in Chicago for a while......and we carried our "good footwear" in a tote, and wore the crummy stuff while out in the foul weather.....................

To me I see no difference between my fine leather dress shoes and my leather boots. I try not to be out in bad weather with them on.
i wear bad weather boots in the rain, snow and ice.
