I would think it illegal to label an item containing 58 ounces as being a "gallon".

64 ounces is a half gallon.

I haven't seen that around here but it wouldn't surprise me.  Everything is getting smaller.  Ice cream used to come in a half-gallon container; now it's 1.5 qts.

Vendors don't want to raise prices so you jump to a cheaper brand.  Instead you get a little less.

I'm not surprised to hear that.  Just buy a jar of the major brand peanut butter and turn the jar upside down.  The bottom of the jar has a big dimple in it, giving you 10% less peanut butter.  It's very deceiving because the jar looks the same as if it had the full amount in it, but the difference is the hollowed out part on the bottom where it's not seen from the grocery store shelf.

Glad kitchen garbage bags have shaved just enough off the height of their 13 gallon drawstring bags so that they no longer fit around the top of my garbage can properly. The bags now collapse into the can.

My grocer sells a 3.78 L container (0,99857306th of a gallon).  It is full nearly to the top and I guess there is room for "fudge" but I believe they come pretty close.

It's priced competitively, too (Wegmans).
