mstraditional, you're most welcome -- I know what it's like to try to track down a remembered taste. I just wish I could have found exactly what you're looking for. Did your mother use Bring (sweet) cherries or sour cherries (as in cherry pie filling)? Did she have a British background? (I'm thinking of Syllabub, Fools, and Eton Mess -- although those are usually made with whipping cream or yogurt.) Did she live in California? (I'm thinking of Regional trends.) The pirouette cookies sound contemporary, so it's probably not something I'd find browsing in old cookbooks. Like Brit, I think it sounds so good I'd really like to make it myself. Do post back here if you succeed in recreating what your mother made.

HoneyBit - no, she wasn't British / didn't live in California. she was a Southern lady. but she served the recipe when we lived up outside of Boston. the cookies were her touch. i am pretty sure the cherries were on the tart side. when i have the energy i'll dig through boxes and find the old recipes we packed up from her house. if i find it i will post. but i might try recreating it in the meantime. again, many thanks.
