I caught rachel rays program today,she cooked hanger steak,never heard of this cut,she also said always cook your steaks in a cast iron pan,be it on the grill,or stove top,news to me.

@goldensrbest this is a very tasty cut of steak but it is chewy. I usually marinate it and then quickly flash sear in a cast iron pan or on a grill. Yum!

I only do my steaks in cast iron now.
Years ago, hubby would cook outside on the grill but now it's just me and I love it in my skillet.
High high heat, little bit of oil, throw it in dry, no seasoning. Maybe a minute or 2 depending on thickness (I don't care for real thick) then flip it, still on high heat. After about a minute or 2, I turn off the burner and let it finish cooking for a few minutes. I had to learn by trial and error. I like my steak medium-rare.

I love steak, but never had a decent one until I married and had my own kitchen.
Mom cooked and we ate, but my Dad always thought the meat was over cooked. I’d like to have a dollar for every time he said “honey, the meat was dead before you put it in the pan”. To this day, my Mom cannot cook a decent steak.
