How important is this in a recipe? Can I just "make my own" by putting several spices together?

IMO, Beau Monde is important if it's called for in a recipe. It's got a distinct aroma, and I doubt if you could duplicate it. It's not that difficult to find in the spice section of most grocery storess. I used it in other recipes some years ago and always liked the flavor it gave.

there are recipes online to duplicate it, but there are quite a few ingredients.

@sunshine45@jannabelle1 Thank you for your replies. I added it to my shopping list and will look for it tomorrow. I think I've seen it in the stores. Happy Holidays !!

There is just one recipe that I makes that calls for it. Veggie Pizza, the cold kind with raw vegetables over a cream cheese base.

My Wal-Mart doesn't have it. I guess you need a fancier store.

There is a brand called Spice Islands (yellow label) that you can find in the supermarket. Target may have it as well. My cousin's wife used to make a dip in a bread bowl and used Beaumonde seasoning in the sour cream-mayo dip. It was awesome. I think she used a few other things as well maybe celery seeds or dill. The dip was so delicious that I practically made a meal of it.

Hi, @pattypeep. I think it'd be FINE to mix up your own! I often do that when I don't have something on hand.
I remember years ago when I needed curry powder, but had none. Until I looked it up, I'd no idea that there's really no such thing, and that it's a Western invention!
Kind of like Americanized Asian food.
Anyway, I just looked up 'Beau Monde' seasoning, and it appears that the spice company Spice Islands owns the trademark to the name.

So, I'd say go for it & just make your own version!

Even tho it has more spices in it, I pretty much interchange it with celery salt.

Only Spice Islands makes it..it is their proprietary mixture
