hello,
with the warm weather, hubby likes (ok, me too) margaritas.
I have been pricing around town the mix, and it just floors me how much it is.
After all, its just the mix, not the alcohol. $15.00 for a half gallon .
So i'm thinking to myself, it's basically glorified limeade, maybe someextra fresh lime, and what?
Anyone ever try this? making their own?

@kittyloo. Hi. I make a margarita with Tequila, Triple Sec and lime juice. I don't like the mix at all. I think it ruins the drink. Our favorite Mexican restaurant makes them without the mix. That's where I learned how to make mine.

Dh has made them with Simply Lime-Aid. I don't know what he put in it.
He has also made them in the Vitamix. I don't think he used the grand marnier I think he used Triple Sec.
1/4 c water
6 oz Tequila
2 oz grand marnier
1 medium orange, peeled, halved,
1 lime, peeled, halved, seeded
1/4 c + 2 T sugar
6 c ice
Here's a recipe from Epicurious

I've used frozen lemonade and/or limeade concentrate!

Makes enough for 1 quart of margaritas when mixed with 1 cup tequila and 1 cup Triple Sec:
4 tsp grated lime zest
1/2 cup fresh lime juice
4 tsp grated lemon zest
1/2 cup fresh lemon juice
1/4 cup superfine sugar
pinch of salt
Combine all ingredients in small pitcher, cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate overnight. Strain into a clean pitcher.

this sounds right up my alley. but............beer? what is the point of the beer?
does it give it some kind of a hoppy flavor or what?

Yes, I make my own Margarita mix. So easy & so much better tasting. Go to kitchn.com and pull up Cocktatil recipe for pure Mexican Maragarita. It's basically, freshly squeezed lime juice, agave nectar or simple syrup & H20. And of course tequila! Yummy!
You'll never buy the mix again.

I used to make this recipe for frozen margaritas a few years ago. It was convenient and quick. It's a little too sweet for me and DH now-we prefer ours more on the tart side but suppose this could be made more tart by adding fresh lime juice.
1- 6 ounce can frozen limeade concentrate (do not defrost or dilute)
6 ounces tequila
2 ounces triple sec
Fill blender with ice, add above ingredients and blend until smooth. Makes 4, depending on how big your serving glasses are.
If you want a really good on the rocks version, google Ina Garten's Real Margaritas on the foodnetwork website. Extremely good, but potent!
