3 T butter

 

1 small onion diced

 

16 oz cooked egg noodles drained

 

16 oz cottage cheese

 

1/2 c sour cream

 

salt and pepper to tste.

 

cook diced inion in butter until tender but not browned.  add negg noodles and stir.  add cottage cheese and    sour cream.  cook until mixture is hot.  serve

Sounds like a noodle kugel recipe I use, it's really good.

And what else could one put in it, chicken, beef?Veggies?

we really it as a change from mac and cheese.  and you can use any kind of pasta that you desire in it

@blackhole99Very close to my mother's kugel.  Hers had no onion and lots more butter because after mixing the ingredients, it all went into an oven casserole, got sprinkled lightly with flour, dotted liberally with butter -  and into the oven.  We all fought for a bit of that crust!

 

I do think I'd like the addition of the onion.  I don't love sweet kugels with raisins, pineapple, and sugar; I know one of my aunts regularly made those sweet kugels.

@millieshops  I prefer the savory kugel too, but my Mom made a kugel that was fairly sweet with sugar and cream cheese, the topping was soft bread crumbs with butter drizzled on top. I would eat it, but wasn't crazy about it. My friend made a potato kugel to die for.
