Whatcha Cooking or Bringing on The Fourth?

It's just we two this year and I will just do hotdogs, beans, and a salad of sort.

What about you?

Re: Whatcha Cooking or Bringing on The Fourth?

We have a huge family get together/reunion on my mom's side of the family every 4th.   It's a huge carry in.  I'm bringing a dill cucumber salad and either baked beans or I may take some chicken wings.

The casino is hosting a BBQ pool party.

We were all over the place with traveling plans this 4th, but as of last night, we will be home (work schedules interfere with the holiday!). So I will be making - sometime this weekend -

Hot dogs, bean bake (my late MIL's recipe), macaroni and/or potato salad, deviled eggs,  and watermelon. I'm keeping it simple! Smiley Wink

Marinated skirt steak with fresh grilled corn on the cob supplemented with salads from a lovely store by my house . . . yum!

I was going to fry chicken, but since DH desn't care for fried food, I will grill kielbasa and serve with corn on the cob, produce market is giving away a tote of white corn with a $30 purchase, so it will be a corny weekend, lol, and a mac salad, and will make stuffed eggs for DH during the day as we will be gardening.

Re: Whatcha Cooking or Bringing on The Fourth?

@Harpa,

Typically cornbread salad is a layered salad, but my family doesn't care for the layers and prefers everything be stirred together and the cornbread wet.  I never use Jiffy cornbread mix for this salad.

I make and crumble my favorite cornbread recipe, add 2 cans of Lucks pinto beans (I do not drain and rinse), chopped onion, tomato, green pepper, a can of corn drained, grated cheddar cheese, then add prepared ranch dressing with sour cream added, and stir together.
