What Did I Do Wrong with My Jam??

Ok, please help me guys!  I have been canning for decades and this happened to me only one other time many years ago when I made peach jam.  I made strawberry jam--2 batches of freezer jam that were fine.  I made a batch of cooked jam and the fruit basically rose to the top of the jars and the bottom 1/4 - 1/3 of the jars are all  jelly.  I cooked it according to the SureGel directions and am very careful in my measuring--using dry cup/liquid measures when appropriate.  I use the exact amount of sugar.  Could it be the berries were too juicy?  They were almost burgundy in color, very sweet but not overly ripe.  Am at a loss.  The jam did set well and the leftover jam is delicious, but geez....

Anyone else ever have this issue?  Anyone know  what may have happened?  TIA.

This is what usually happens with overripe fruit.

I didn't think it was over ripe, RedTop but you are probably right.  Thanks for your input and I will definately make sure the fruit isn't over ripe in the future.  It may not look the way I wanted it to, but boy is it good!

Thank you Carlycat!  I read the tips and never thought about inverting the jars to help mix the jam.  Other good tips too.  How could I forget Google??

Re: What Did I Do Wrong with My Jam??

I was going to mention re-cooking the jam. My Mom loves Apricot-Pineapple Jam, but she can't find the type she used to buy that had lots of pineapple in it. She empties the jar and adds more pineapple and cooks it.

I see one of the links tells how to re-make it! Happy to have instructions!

Good luck!
