You've made me hungry for a roast but I've been putting off buying one since the price of beef is so high right now. Nothing wrong with cooking one in the summer, especially in the crock pot!
@jannabelle1 Don't forget the Thyme! 2 tsp for 5 lbs.![]()

@Kachina624 wrote:@ECBG I think we had a conversation some time back when I complained about crockpot cooked roasts being dry and bland. You made some suggestions. Sounds like yours turned out okay but I'll never cook another roast using this method. I think the water (liquid) just boils the essence out of the meat...the fat and flavor. Meat is precious now, too much so to ruin in the Crock-Pot.
@Kachina624 You're SO kind to always be there for me. I had NEVER done a rump roast this way. I always do it with double the amount of other items I used tonight. Works like a charm. Aparently rump roasts really, really, need help. The next one will definately have the mushroom soup, thyme, and onion soup with the other items!
You're invited!

I was afraid to admit that I made a roast in the crockpot today @RetRN . Dried onion soup mix and mushroom soup made a tasty gravy. Carrots and potatoes cooked along with the meat. Might bake a pizza tomorrow night if the food police don't jump on me!

@Sooner I have heard of arm roast, bet they are the same as english roast. Chuck roasts were used to make vegetable soup - very delicious! Making me hungry as we only had Tuna Noodle Helper for summer tonight!

I used to love a roast, with potatoes, carrots....not so much lately, but I know that I will buy another one, one of these days and try again!
@Mom2Dogs When I do a chuck roast with vegetables, I use 2 cans tomato soup, 1/2 can of water, Worcestershire, a little garlic, parsley, and seal the casserole tight. 350 degrees 3 hours. It turns out great.
My step mother made this and my little sister would eat it for breakfast cold! Reheats great!!!!
My boys call it "red roast".

@ECBG You mentioned adding soy -- I'm assuming soy sauce. If so, try adding a couple tablespoons of soy sauce to chicken soup. Saw that on Cooks Country or America's Test Kitchen -- one of those shows and tried it. Was it ever delish. Just a little somethin', somethin'.

Sounds simply delicious to me. I don’t think there are rules about what to cook in each season. Whatever sounds good, or maybe what is on sale at the market.
@HB glamma Thanks. We had just had these baby back ribs roasted on a bed of brown sugar, then finished on the grill. I don't want to spend calories on something I can barely tell is there!
I was having a beef moment!!!![]()

I agree. I got rid of my crockpots long ago. Everything was bland or (in the case of chicken) very overcooked.

@AuntG Next time try 2 tsp. thyme. Really great! We almost had the same dinner, Girl! Hope yours was a hit! Mine was over the fence!!!![]()
I didn't, however, recreate the flavor I remember as a child when I steamed the snow peas for the green vegie. The south was no where steaming crisp tender when I was growing up!!! My grandmother's didn't crunch when you ate them. The flavor with more cooking was better.
