@depglass  I wonder if beef consomme and cream of mushroom soup would work as well.

I once knew someone who was a mushroom specialist at Campbell's. I never realized such a highly focused job existed. But when you think about it, a lot of different veggies go into soup cans, and they have to come out just right.

Beef and mushroom would be wonderful!  I'd pour it over strips of sirloin on noodles!

Re: The simplest and tastiest gravy I have ever made.

I am in love with this roast made with mushroom soup.  I prefer to do this in the crock pot now, the roast is incredibly more tender!

Our two GS love this roast!

Mushroom Roast

Rump  or Sirloin Tip (I do 5 lbs)

2 Cans mushroom soup

1 Pkg Lipton Dry Onion Soup packets

2 tsp. Thyme

2 Tbsp. parsley

2 Tbsp. Steak sauce

2 Tbsp. Worchestchire sauce

Cut off fat and place roast in deep casserole.

Mix all remaining ingredients and pour over.

Cover as tightly as possible.

Bake at 325 degrees 3 hrs.

You may need to thicken the gravy if the roast has a lot of juices.

(7 hrs on low in a crock pot.).

@depglass

I use so much beef consomme, I bought a case of it.  Less expensive than the grocery store by a mile!

I use it in all stews and soups.

Wish I could be of help @Luvsmyfam but this store doesn't even have a telephone. We were on a ride in the country looking for an Amish bakery, and we came across a general store that sells food in bulk. It was dimly lit, but I found a few interesting items, so I bought taco seasoning, chili powder and gravy mixes.

Yes, I do the mushroom soup-consomme combo also, I've done that for years and just happened to try the cream of chicken.  I have a Finnish cookbook since I'm part Finnish, and those ladies are hooked on mushroom soup.

Re: The simplest and tastiest gravy I have ever made.

@depglass Thanks! I was looking around here for some ideas for supper and this gave me a great one. I have some leftover gravy from some chicken I cooked yesterday. I will combine with cream of chicken and have hamburger steaks with mushrooms & onions, grits for the gravy, and a salad. Sounds delish. Thanks, again. Woman Happy
