This recipe is from Gooseberry Patch's Hometown Harvest page 170.

2 lbs. ground beef or turkey ( I used ground turkey)

1 c. onion, chopped

1 c. celery, chopped

1 c. green pepper, chopped

(1) 15-1/2 oz. can diced tomatoes (I did not drain it)

(1) 16-oz. can tomato sauce

(2) 15-1/2 oz. cans red kidney beans, drained

1-1/2 c. catsup

1/4 c. brown sugar, packed

1/4 c. lemon juice

2 T chili powder

2 T Worcestershire sauce

2 t. ground cumin

1-1/2 t. salt

1/2 t. dry mustard

1 bay leaf

In a skillet over medium heat, brown meat with onion, celery and green pepper; drain. Add meat mixture to a large slow cooker; stir in tomatoes with juice and remaining ingredients. Cover and cook on low setting for 4 to 5 hours. Discard bay leaf before serving. Makes 12 servings.

We enjoyed this and there is some in the freezer. Kathy
