It has been recently we have seen the possum. We knew we had critters but never figured out all that we had. We used to have MANY skunks but they disappeared. Of course after our dogs were skunked. A coyote, eagles and a bear have been spotted in the neighborhood recently. They are building houses on every square inch of ground so the animals have no where else to go.

We put the eggs out - far away from the bird feeders. 

I figured I won't make that mistake again. And I guess the critters will be sorry. But we still put out lots of birdseed, suet and fruits for them.

Whenever I do mine I only do for about three minutes in boiling water then just turn the burner off and let the eggs continue to sit in the hot water on the burner until the water is tepid.  Never had soft yolk or a dry yolk.
