SMALL SCALE THANKSGIVING DINNER?

Okay, I love leftovers but don't want to do a Hollywood Production Dinner this year.

Small scale.

I was thinking of getting just a boneless turkey breast (about 3 pounds) or a couple Cornish Hens.  Maybe three hens so the third would be leftover.

A couple vegs from scratch, but I'd buy the pie.

If you've gone small-scale, what did you prepare?

Safeway's deli is open a couple hours..."for those last-minute items"

and that's where I'm getting my dinner...

@Tinkrbl44 It has been small scale for us for 10 years.  Family gone, mom in nursing home.

A few times we cooked a turkey and then thought why?  It's a huge mess.  So we go low key.  Usually steaks, may a turkey breast some years.  Green beans, cornbread dressing, cranberry sauce and baked sweet potato.  Easy!  Usually pecan pie for dessert.

The last 3 or 4 years, we get a meal from a local country club, which is wonderful!  We always get turkey, steak, a side and dessert and freeze the extras.  We make cornbread dressing chopped with sauteed onions and celery, Italian seasoning, broth and Campbell's mushroom soup and a dash of lemon poured over then baked.

Just do what you like and don't let memories get you into a big mess in the kitchen.  I've decided it really isn't worth it.

Nice plates and glasses make it more festive!  Oh and that orange and cranberry ground up with nuts "salad."  Recipe on the cranberry package.  A drop of Grand Marnier or another orange booze does add to it!  Woman Very Happy

@Tinkrbl44.  That sounds like a lot of work and not "small scale".  Since I'm alone and hate to cook, my meal was a Hormel Completes shelf stable dinner which I cooked in the micro for 1 minute.

Holidays are just ordinary days at my house.  I've cooked my share of big feasts.

Re: SMALL SCALE THANKSGIVING DINNER?

My dinner will be simple and easy. I too am doing a boneless turkey breast and a pork tenderloin for some turkey haters. Both of these mains are easily to prepare . My sides are acorn squash, bagged dressing with added onion, celery, and apple, and fresh green beans with bacon. No potatoes because we are not fans. I will open a can of whole cranberry sauce and add some grand marnier ( yum). I will serve a bakery pumpkin pie, because frankly I'm just not up to baking this year. It doesn't have to be gourmet to be festive. The following day I will stuff mushrooms with leftover dressing and top with Parmesan cheese.

After the '94  CA Quake...I moved to Arizona (needed to get a job since my workplace was condemned and nobody was hiring).

I bought some genuine "CHINA"...(dinnerware from the Dollar Store).   And that's all I have...a couple plates and bowls...

Re: SMALL SCALE THANKSGIVING DINNER?

Low key at my house, this year it is just me and my husband.  We had a friend invite us to their home but opted to stay home.

My husband was recently diagnosed with arthritis in his hip and has been in quite a bit of pain....hopefully a scheduled injection tomorrow will help him.

I am doing a turkey breast in the crock pot, cranberry salad, green beans potatoes and dessert.

Re: SMALL SCALE THANKSGIVING DINNER?

This Thanksgiving will be a big feast maker for me. I've always cooked a big meal for my children and their family but Covid stopped it. This year will be the first time we are all together again and I'm so happy !  I'm cooking a Turkey, Ham, dressing with gravy, corn casserole, corn bread, green beans, mac and cheese and sweet potato casserole.  For dessert we are having Paula Deens Not yo mammas bananna pudding. My family loves it !  I will be cooking for 2 days straight !! Woman Very Happy

Re: SMALL SCALE THANKSGIVING DINNER?

Won't be making a Thanksgiving meal. Might do a small meal in December of turkey, mashed potatoes, corn, cranberries and dinner rolls. I'm happy to skip dessert.
