SLOW-COOKER SHELL PASTA CASSEROLE

For 4-5 servings........

 

1 pound lean ground beef

1 small onion, chopped

1 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

1/4 cup flour

1-1/4 cups hot water

2 teaspoons beef bouillon

2 tablespoons red wine

6 ounces large shell-shaped macaroni

1 (2-oz.) can sliced mushrooms, drained

1 cup sour cream

 

Brown ground beef and onion in skillet.

Drain meat. Place in slow-cooking pot.

Stir in salt, garlic powder, Worcestershire and flour.

Add water, bouillon and wine.  Mix well.Cover and cook on LOW for 2-3 hours.

Meanwhile, cook macaroni according to package directions.

Add cooked macaroni, mushrooms and sour cream to pot.

Stir to mix.  Cover and cook on HIGH for 10-15 minutes.

I will try this.  Sounds like a recipe I had as a kid, only not prepared in a crockpot. This method will probably be more flavorful. Thanks for posting it!

This looks interesting but wonder how much GARLIC POWDER

does it take.

Wow......thanks for pointing out one (and then I found one other ) error in the shell recipe that I copied (or tried to) from a slow-cooker cookbook by Mable Hoffman, a home economist who used to be a food stylist and editorial consultant for Better Homes & Gardens.

 

My apologies to you and to dear old Mable!  Reportedlyl, her slow-cooker cookbook sold 2 million copies before I found it during the 1970s.

 

I have corrected her recipe. that I posted on this thread, so you can see it up above. but  here's where the specific corrections were:

1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
