I LOVE TEAL, TOO!
By the way, “TEAL” is my middle name.
Sincerely,

Happy Friday All!
I am so far behind but am catching up slowly. Just had to comment on the TEAL conversation. TEAL is the color of "my ribbon." It is the color for ovarian cancer and has become one of my favorite colors as well. I have a strange request. When you see anything TEAL in color, just say a short prayer that a test will soon be found as there is NO TEST for ovarian cancer. It is NOT detected in your pap smear. Once you feel the symptoms, it is usually not good news.
Sorry to hijack the thread, but this is very near and dear to me, as well as many others. As far as I know, it is the only cancer that does not have a test to detect it. Even if you have had your ovaries removed, you can still get ovarain cancer. It is a very dismal disease.
Thank you for sharing that info!
I had NO idea! I always thought that is what the pap was for!!!???
Respect,
I'm sorry if I went on a rant-I just don't believe women realize how truly scary this cancer is-what woman in peri menopause/menopause doesn't have some of the above symptoms? I truly had no idea that I had ovarian cancer. Because I was having an issue that was causing non stop bleeding, I thought I might have cervical or uterine cancer but that problem was caused by the polyp found in the D&C. No cancer there. If that ovary had not torsioned, I would not have known until it was too late. Yes, I have been not only blessed, but extremely favored in His eyes. I am tearing up even writing this now as it is so humbling.
No, your PAP test only checks for cancers in the cervix, uterus, and v****a. To date, there is no test for ovarian cancer. I think one reason is there are not enough women to champion this - most of us die within 5 years of being told of our diagnosis. The chance of survival from breast cancer is much greater. There are more survivors of breast cancer to champion their cause. Lisa Robertson's mother passed from ovarian cancer, as Jackie Fox, an heiress of the L'Oreal family, Madeline Kahn, and Gilda Radner. EVERY woman is at risk of developing this cancer, even if the ovaries have been removed. I have a very large family-approx. 9 aunts between both sides of my family and over 50 first cousins (not all of those are female though!) and I am the only one who has been affected by this cancer. I believe the statistics are 1 in 75 females will have this.
I'm sorry to be on my "soapbox" again but just feel women in particular feel a certain safety net or guardian angel is over them because they get pap smear, mammograms and champion breast cancer causes but don't really realize there is a more deadly cancer that can affect only them and there is still, no test to detect it. That is why it is imperative for women to know their bodies and know the symptoms of this horrible cancer and to keep communication going with their doctors. Remember, even my cancer doctor didn't see the cancer on my CAT scan, just the bad ovary that had twisted. One radiologist "saw something" he didn't feel belonged, and my cancer doctor was surprised when he removed that ovary, to find out that that radiologist was correct! Just a note, my cancer doctor is in the top 3 of the country specializing in ovarian cancer. I'm telling you this because this cancer is just that hard to detect, even by the experts. The color teal has a very personal meaning to me and many others. Education about this disease is imperative.
Now, I promise to get stop lecturing......at least for the present but please my friends and anyone reading this, press for a test, know your bodies, learn the symptoms, talk to your doctor.

Hey, did you guys see "Has the Kitchen Section Gone to Pot" under kitchen???
Interesting....
I don't think it is directed at us but I wonder why others care that groups "chat" under a certain topic????
It seems it is wherever they initially connected, in our case it was SOUP!!!!!
Any threads that I have read (which CERTAINLY includes ours) seem to be more than welcoming to everyone.
I don't know about you but if I have time, I scan the topics & only open the ones I feel I might be interested in.

WOW, that is powerful mustang!
Rant on my friend, it is so very, very important!!!!
Thank you for the reminder!

no, no no! You are not on a soapbox lecturing at all! It is a topic you are unfortunately quite knowledgeable and I, for one, am appreciative of your input and sharing of info.
I honestly thought a Pap tested for this. Such a dummy. You have taught me a LOT!
I have a question, how can you get this cancer if the ovaries are removed? Wouldn't a full hysterectomy prevent this cancer?
You are right...as we age we do seem to have these symptoms! I always feel bloated at this age!
I just copied that symptom chart to save on my computer as a reminder!
Teal will certainly be special to me now as well. Bless you for sharing with us!

I saw that too, @ChiliPepper
I was going to post on it then thought I shouldn't.
I was just going to say that amongst our chatter is some of the best recipes I have ever eaten or made. Making friendships, sharing a common love for cooking and food is what these boards should be about!
I actually think there are a great number of recipes posted still. I know the Recipe Game slows from time to time, but it is stil active every month.
Since I have a lot of down time here at work, I also scan and see if any other topics are interesting to me.
I loved the kitchen gadget one....and the growing herb one....
Do you think it may bother others that we post our recipes here instead of starting a new thread for it?
I hope others know we would love for them to join in Potsticker Soup!

I was going to get on my soap box over there also but decided against it. I don't want to argue with anyone. The older I get the more I want to surround myself with positivity, friendship & happiness not negativity. That's what is so great about this thread, we rejoice during the good times & pray & lift each other up during the troubling times.
I don't think it has anything to do with us (or if it does - I simply don't care!).
I think there are some people (remember the Food Police???) that like to complain no matter what.
I decided to ignore them & concentrate on you wonderful Ladies!
Plus, mtc does a GREAT job posting those links (did you see the crescent roll one???). She covers the Kitchenettes well with her recipe postings LOL!!!
BTW, thanks for the reminder, I wanted to go back & check out the gadget & herb threads.

Respect,
I am a R.N. but am not a cancer nurse-so many things about cancer mystify me. This article helped me the most in understanding.

Hello Chili!
Thank you for your kind words.
I had to jump over to the Kitchen boards to see what was going on there-I didn't get the feeling that they were upset about us and I do understand that they may not be seeing the recipes as we post them. Honestly, the way a lot of the recipes come up that we post, it is the result of a conversation or event happening in our lives. Example, the tree frog cocktail you posted when I commented about our pool being a lab experiment for tree frog reproduction! You probably would not have posted that had the topic of tree frogs came up. To start a new post on every recipe one of us posts as a result of a silly topic we may be discussing would probably overwhelm the boards and be impossible for us to keep up with. I don't know if there is a real solution-I think the boards have evolved in a new direction and most people (especially me) don't handle change well. I know some of the previous posters really got hit hard by some snarky people and I don't blame them for leaving. It takes time to post here-who needs the hassle of having snarky remarks made in reply to something posted? I would and will leave in that situation as well. I basically had ceased posting until someone re-posted the potsticker soup recipe and then so many people started making it and commenting on it.

OMG, I hope it never comes to that!!!!
