mtc,
It sounds like you are relieved with how things worked out house-sale-wise. Congratulations! That was fast, wasn't it?
Just a thought: see if your realtor can get a cap on your HOA fees so you are not caught not being able to afford living in your condo on down the line.

Thanks for the link -- I'm going to order a backup (in case the rust ever wins).
I like the idea of the battery-powered one, too, although I REALLY don't want anything else that requires batteries. I remember when C cells and D cells were known as "flashlight batteries" because that's the only thing they were used for. Now there are more kinds of batteries than there are lightbulbs. [Anyone have an application handy for membership in the Luddite Society?]
Whatever you do, don't ask for "transistor batteries"
OMG @VaBelle35!
I almost snorted my drink out of my nose on this! It also reminded me of my DM-she went to the post office once and told them she knew the price had to change but she wanted penny postcards! The clerk had a good laugh over that one also! Items of our past!

I would love to see Happy's father become more a part of the show=maybe not every episode but still more frequently. I loved how he "knew" she was his daughter when she walked into his garage and how she has the knack of working on engines, etc., obviously from him. He seemed like he truly loved her, her mother and missed being a part of her life and she seemed like she missed him and wanted him more in her life. I don't think that is a story line the writers should let die off.
Ray falls in that same category. And I'm not sure that they can let Tim and Drew completely out of the story line without some notice that Drew is still the father of Ralph, and Tim was still in love in Paige although I think she was only "in like" with him. Needs closure on both story lines.
I hated that Meghan had to die. I love the love that Sylvester had for her and the family and that he skyped with her parents even after her passing. I think they do have to maintain some presence in the story line.
And the lawyer was as much a hoot as Ray. I think boy have potential to have substantial supportive roles. I hope the writers don't tank on this show.

This is an excellent point @Writer with Flair thank you so much for bringing this up . . . I'll add it to my list of questions to keep track of!

I'm not sure it's possible to have your HOA fees capped. I think what you can do is ask for a history of the fees and ask what the governing documents state in terms of how much they can raise the fees each year.
My fees were less than $100 when I moved in in 1993 and are now $177. I pay two separate HOA fees. This year is the first year they didn't raise the fees, this was due to a leadership change in the master HOA and they were courting votes. The condo HOA followed suit to see if they could get anyone to run for that board.
The fees usually go up about $5 a year. And they do that so that people don't get mad when it goes up again. If they raise each fee by about $2.50 people don't really notice. But if they hold the fees steady for 2 years and then all of a sudden they raise it by $10, everyone screams.

Thanks @RespectLife but I think things are going to be great! Vince just left and we worked through a couple of different scenarios financially and I should be able to sell the house and buy a two bedroom condo with underground parking and still have money left over (plus he thinks he can get me a job with a lawyer friend of his). I am completely fine with the price he wants to list at as it's 20k more than what I paid for it. There will be no sign up that the house is for sale nor will there be any open houses since I live alone. Today just could not have gone better, I feel so much better about everything . . .
Thanks to everyone for their thoughts and kind words, yay!
It's a good day to be mtc!!!!!

That's great news. I'm glad it's working out.
My uncle's house will need to be gutted for it to sell. His next door neighbor wants it, as is, for his MIL. To me, I'm happy to do a private sale and offload it to someone who wants it vs trying to get it fixed up enough to show. It is far beyond a coat of paint. I think it needs to be taken down to the studs.
Thanks @VaBelle35, in my case I won't be surprised if a contractor buys it as they'll make a nice profit. The house has "good bones" and the size of the rooms are very generous. I hope I get what we are asking for but realize I am starting from behind the proverbial eight ball so to speak. I wish you nothing but good luck on selling your uncle's house, hopefully the economy will stay strong and even challenged properties will move.
And thanks for the advice on the HOA fees. Like I said, I know I will have them but had no idea what to expect so your advice is most helpful.

Hmmmm, what about "prop wash" or "blinker fluid" ????
Maybe a "cassette dubbing deck"?
Even my favorite electrician didn't know what the new equivalent to a 15-watt nightlight bulb is. Sigh.

Oh goodness @Honeybit they don't make nightlight bulbs anymore? To be honest I haven't had them in the house since my mom passed and I did buy light sensor ones for the kitchen so Chloe would have light when I would come home after dark so it never dawned on me . . . man do I feel old!

Back in my computer career days, I did a lot of business with Best Buy's Computer Department. They had some pretty knowledgeable people in the era when computers were a hobbyist item instead of a commodity item. I was in there (quite) a while back (now a totally foreign landscape) and out of curiosity asked one of the young men what "Wi-Fi" was the short term for. He didn't know it "stood for" anything. (For the record, it's "Wireless Fidelity.")
I marvel at the fact that technology devoted years to developing exquisite sound and color reproduction for ultra-wide screen theater and television screens, and people now want to watch movies on palm-size cell phones.
I don't FEEL old, I just AM old!
