Hello Kitchenettes,
It's another hot humid day here and from what is predicted-just the start of even more miserably humid hot weather for a few days.
I'm sorry that the priest rejected your choices of songs to honor Papa Q. Some churches have a narrow list they allow. The hymns you sang are beautiful in melody and words and I'm sure Papa Q was telling those angels, "That's my girl! That's Petra's Mom!" Bless you for doing this. ![]()
Don't mess too much with that raccoon. Even if he isn't rabid, they are very temperamental. In some ways, they are like cats-they own the area they are in, not you! Would your county or city animal control trap him for you? I know you have to remove the food source, but a call to either or both control services may take care of this problem for you, especially if there are rabid animals in your area.
I rarely eat ice cream although I love it. I just don't need one more vice hanging on my hips but I do drink cocktails from time to time! I'm thinking this is more a cocktail than ice cream sandwich so I'm in! ![]()
Hi Seattle-Good to see you posting! What kind of doggie do you have? We are fans of furbabies here!
What's going on upstate, little lady? I'm so tired of MO election stuff on t.v. I could scream. Will be happy when today is over. Is it bad up there or are you far enough away from MO to get many commercials? Since our t.v. programing comes out of St. Louis, we get a huge amount.
@Writer with Flair
I received two of the three handbags I ordered from HSN today. Oh my, they are beautiful! I haven't had time to inspect them since DH decided to work out of the house today. He knows I got one box-he doesn't know two handbags were in there! Both look much more expensive than what I paid and they were before the clearance but even at those prices, I think I would be just as pleased. That IMAN straw handbag is the one I left out in view and it is gorgeous. Wish it had still been available in the ivory but the raspberry red is not disappointing in any way. I am very impressed at how well made it is.
Did you find the recipe on Martha's website for the creamy avocado dip? If not, I will re-write it and post it here for you.
Hope you haven't melted in this heat. Stop by and say hi when you get a chance.

@seattlegirl98026 Sorry I haven't said welcome before. I've been mostly away from the thread for a couple of months due to a really peculiar leg injury which kept me from sitting comfortably at the computer. My fur friend is an adopted Lhasa Apso whose picture is way back somewhere on this Souper Thread. He has been dubbed by mtc as "The Fabulous Yazzy with the Excellent Tail" (or sometimes "Elegant Tail.") Looking forward to hearing about your dog -- we are all animal lovers (as well as food lovers) here. Glad to have you joining us.

@mustang66lady once again I have to tell you I am embarassed to say that my area is once again not subject to the heat and humidity that your area is suffering . . . I often feel that our good weather pressure system is your bad weather pressure system . . . ![]()

@ChiliPepper and All,
About that raccoon -- I don't know how it is where all of you variously are, but Animal Control here isn't into trapping raccoons. My experience with a raccoon was way back pre-Yazzy with the Yorkies. I had a neighbor whose dog was convinced in her heart that she lived with me and she would climb my fence and spend days (weeks) here. One afternoon the Yorkies and I were outside and she came tearing across the field in hot pursuit of a raccoon. The raccoon ran up a pecan tree right near one of my sheds. Blessedly the Yorkies didn't have a chance to get in on the action.
I called AC, but a it was a police officer who responded. I kept the raccoon in sight until he got here -- since the raccoon was active in the daylight, I was pretty sure it was rabid. I remember the incident so vividly for two reasons -- (1) the officer had to phone in to HQ to get permission to fire his gun and (2) he just disposed of the body -- said it would cost too much to test for rabies.
He also wanted to know if my dogs had any contact with the raccoon. I told him I knew the two Yorkies didn't, but that the third dog belonged to a neighbor and I didn't see the beginning of the incident. He went off to contact them.
Anyway, caution is the better part of valor with any wild critter. I was once shocked to see a wharf rat standing up on its hind legs snarling at a Chow -- wasn't even cornered, just out in the open. Possums don't "play possum" either -- they stand up and hiss.
Never a dull moment out here in the country (although I could use a few from time to time.....).

Yay, we get skunks all the time. I live in town, a small town but a town none the less.
First time I've seen a raccoon here. In the country yes, but not here.
Plus, I didn't realize they ate seeds!!!

Gee @Honeybit I can't imagine why a neighboring dog would climb a fence and prefer to spend time with you and your furbabies . . . . just can't even imagine that . . . ![]()
@ChiliPepper because I had that Game of Thrones Dragon (aka Chloe, tee hee) we never saw that raccoon again.
Now if we would like to chat up skunks . . . . I don't want to as I believe they have defeated me once again for the season . . . sigh.
Oy.
