@momtochloe Ref "Secret Life of Pets" -- someone sent me an e-mail back in March that had the clip of the little daschund scratching his back under the stand mixer -- I didn't even know then that it was part of a movie trailer. There are very few movies I even want to see, but that one has been on my list since I found out it would be released in July. The parts about what pets do when their owners are away are cute and funny, but there are parts that are a lot darker than "Lady and the Tramp" getting hauled off to the pound. I'm really REALLY glad I grew up when I did -- as the song said, "It's not just a different time; it was a different world."
I delivered your hug to Yazzy -- willingly or not, he's having to revert to his "Silk Cushion Charlie" days; it's just too HOT for dashing young dogs to be dashing about outside. We went for our walk at 6:30 AM this morning.

Angelic, not sure...but heartfelt absolutely! I sure would be honored to sing for him. We will see if the church allows it. Sometimes there are 'rules'.
I sang at my BIL funeral and mom's. God blessed me with the ability to get through the songs w/o breaking down. I will pray for that GRACE!
I am leaning towards "Does Jesus Care"....

In my catch-up reading I just got to the part with all your sad news and saw your post about singing. What wonderful final gift to be able to give. All of us Kitchenettes will be sending love and prayerful thoughts your way for grace and strength as you bless the family with your voice. (((((Respect)))).
Oh @Honeybit
How sweet and beautiful your post is!
Thank you!!

(((((( Respect)))))
I'm so sorry to read your news today. I have been gone this morning so am just now catching up.
You apparently sing well enough to have a reputation of being good and heartfelt or you would not be asked to sing. God has given you a gift and it's wonderful you use it to His glory, especially in difficult times. You will know when you have chosen the best song for the circumstances you will be in.
And yes, the Kitchenettes will be with you in prayer and spirit. Papa Q has even touched our lives although we have not met, but we will someday! ((((

@RespectLife ok, I held it together for about 2/3 of the song but the last 1/3 made me cry. I think this is an outstanding song to sing at Papa Q's service and bless you for having the strength to sing it as I couldn't even watch it on a video without losing it. You are such a strong woman, bless you for adding your lovely contributions for Papa Q's services as I know he will so enjoy hearing your lovely voice! ![]()

On a more frivolous note, I do love that Buffalo Chicken Dip. There have been times when I made up a batch and just had it as a meal (okay, several meals). I discovered there’s no real need to bake it -- everything’s already cooked, and when you have to take it some distance for a get-together it’s cooled off by the time you get there anyhow.
I just learned three new “snack” tricks -- they may not be new to any of you, but for what they’re worth, here they are. I’ve been enjoying them.
(1) I’ve had the “bar of cream cheese covered in jelly” before. The new twist was using goat cheese and Braswell’s Hot Jalapeno Jelly. I don’t like HOT peppers (I want to taste the food and not the BURN) but this is really good. It has just a little tang but no unpleasant heat. It’s a lovely clear red color. You can also serve this in some of those little pre-made bite-size phyllo cups -- bake the cups, fill with softened cream cheese and/or goat cheese, and top with a dab of the jelly. Pretty. Tasty. Pretty tasty.
(1b) Heard about this, but haven’t tasted it. It’s a baked appetizer using sausage, cheese, and bottle Ranch dressing. It seems to be making the rounds, so the recipe is probably online. They talked like these are the only ingredients.
(2) At a Fourth of July get-together, one of the guys brought his homemade Hummus. Around the bowl was a platter of really tasty, really thin -- but not crisp -- dippers. I asked him what kind of pita bread it was, and he said it was just plain flour tortillas from Wal-Mart. He sliced them into rectangles. He said he could get more hummus and less bread with every bite that way. I found some small whole-wheat tortillas -- Mission Brand -- at Publix and have been having them with Sabra brand hummus for lunch on days I haven’t felt like standing at the counter to fix more impressive food. It would be pretty to make a platter with some whole-wheat slices and some plain flour ones. Also, Toufayan makes some “spinach” and “tomato” flat wraps which could add more color -- they aren’t flavored enough to have a strong taste.
(3) On Sunday I went to an Open House for someone’s daughter -- her parents just spent two years renovating a house for her and she wanted to show it off. Very wisely they gave tours of the house and then had a small pavilion-style tent out in the yard for the refreshments (no mess in the beautiful new house!). SMART! They served the watermelon in a way I’d never seen -- the dad said his wife saw the idea on “her guru” Dr. Oz’s show.
Cut the watermelon in half lengthwise -- this was a rounded watermelon rather than one of the long ones -- and lay one oval half cut-side-down on a tray. Make the first row of cuts lengthwise all the way down the melon, about two inches apart. Make the second row of cuts crosswise all the way across the melon, again about two inches apart. Don’t split the rows apart, sort of push the melon back together if the slices want to separate. (Pull out that first two-inch square from the middle of the melon so your guests will know what to do.) To serve, guests just pull out a “square” of melon -- it looks sort of like a popsicle, and the rind is the handle while the long piece of melon is just the right size for biting. No muss, no fuss, no plates needed (especially outdoors).
I had never seen a melon cut that way, and it made a really pretty, clever presentation as well as being “handy” to eat and added to the fun since everybody was talking about it.
(I haven't had lunch yet so I'm sort of "food-obsessed". I saw a cookbook the other day titled "I Like Food -- Food Tastes Good." YES, I say!)

@Writer with Flair I was so thankful to see your post that Rodney was doing better. He has been in my prayers. I know he is your friends' son, but is he a child or a young man. Did they ever find out what happened? Was his injury from an accident in the driveway or was he attacked?
There was a time when "attack" would not have crossed my mind -- the Atlanta news is too much with me.
-----
I saw the posts about the "remote start" feature on cars having a time-out feature. It reminded me that I was with one of our Book Club ladies in her new Toyota Avalon -- back when it still RAINED here. We jumped out of the car and sheltered under an awning while she clicked her remote to lock the car doors -- and it wouldn't lock. She had to go back out in the rain to find out what she hadn't shut off before it would lock. (If it's such a smart car, you'd think it would TELL her before she got out of the car to start with!)
Right after that, I heard on the Cheerful Earful known as the Nightly News about an elderly couple in Atlanta who died in their bed of asphyxiation. They had accidentally left their new car running in the closed garage and went in and went to bed, and were killed by carbon monoxide poisoning. You would think that, too, would have some sort of timer to shut the engine off.
The lady's Avalon, which is a gasoline/battery hybrid, is so quiet that you can't tell from inside of it or standing next to it whether the engine is running or not. Makes me even more thankful for my elderly cars -- they still need an old-fashioned key to start them, they make a noise when the door opens and the key is still in the ignition, and they don't have air bags which are liable to explode in my face in this HOT WEATHER! (Ain't Technology Grand?????)

Without question, best service I've ever been to. I left feeling like I really knew her although I'd never met her and wished I had. She was the sister of a co-worker/friend.

That's kinda funny! I love it!
The family was from WV, but she lived in the DC area and was a teacher. The family pastor (a cousin) asked to use a local church for a service, so the pastor of the church here opened the service, welcomed everyone and turned his church over to this man.
And then the fun began.
It ended with everyone singing to John Denver's Take Me Home Country Roads.
That's that kind of service I want when I go out. We're all going to sing the B-52s Love Shack on the way out.
