Makeup is the one thing I don't hoard.  I do seem to have a problem with body wash and matching lotion.  I have made a promise to myself not to purchase anymore until I use what I have which may take until Christmas or a bit longer! It seemed to take forever to use up the 9 supersize bottles of Philosophy I had!  Now am working on the Bath and Body Works collection!  I am willing to help declutter makeup for anyone!  I need someone to help declutter my pyrex as I sit here looking at the chip and dip bowls that came today.......Woman Frustrated

This stuff is old so I wouldn't dare want anyone to use it.

As I clear out, I will keep my eye out though.

However, I am NOT a make-up junkie like you LOL!

Oh yes sorry @mustang66lady I just got off the phone with tech support for my anti virus software as an update didn't install properly and was causing problems . . . sigh.

I also heard from the repair shop and I'll get the car back tomorrow morning.  It'll be a little under $1,400 and thanks to you and @VaBelle35 as I got the courage to ask if they could come pick me up and they will, hooray!

It's just been a long day as I got a couple more thanks but no thanks replies in terms of jobs so I think I am going to take a couple of asprins and go to bed early.

It's been a lovely day here and I just scanned the adds and ears of corn are on sale so that'll be my Fourth of July chow as I love grilled corn.  What's everybody elses plans for the Fourth?  @RespectLife I know you and your DH have your retreat so that will be lovely, good for you!  Smiley Happy

Oh thanks @ChiliPepper and everybody, it's just been a weird week for me but the good news is I figured out what was wrong with my fridge (it's been running oddly and I figured it was on the fritz too, egad) but when I was messing around with installing the new lightbulb I must have accidently adjusted the freezer setting to high so once I finally figured that out it's back to normal (yay!).

Thanks for thinking and checking on me all the time like you do.  Like I said, this has just been a weird week especially with all the bad news on the news this week so it's been easier to watch movies and veg for a while but I need to do that upstairs as the downstairs tv doesn't have access to the movies.

What's are you and DD doing for the Fourth Chili?

I'm sorry you are having such a rough time.  Wish we could help but I would be no help with your anti-virus.  Glad your garage is going to pick you up to get your car though!  Hope they got everything ship shape for you!

And keep going on that job hunt.  I realize it is more than discouraging.  I keep thinking that things will get better for all.  It's hard for these young people to find jobs, too.  At least ones that pay some benefits and a decent living salary.   Chin up, girlfriend!  Woman Wink

I love your concern about the clothing and shoes for school kids!  I don't know of any charities around here that do this.  I know someone does collect new and gently used coats for kids but that is usually closer to Thanksgiving.  I always tried to pick up extra pencils, erasers, crayons, scissors, etc and send with my grandson to school.  I figured the teachers could discretely distribute to those in need or at least have them on hand for those that needed them.  I also try to gift the teacher with the same at the end of school so they will be ready for the incoming kids in fall. Hate to hear of kids doing without of such simple, but much needed items.  I will try to seek out a place to donate shoes and such in my area-it's a great idea!

Mustang,

That is such a sweet and thoughtful idea about having your grandson take extra school supplies to school for the teacher to dicreetly give to the students who need them.  Once, again, dear Mustang, you have show what a great heart you have.  Bless you!

My makeup alone will need a Uhaul...a second one for my clothes, another for shoes...and two more for handbags.  But HEY....I LOOK GOOD!  Ha ha!!

RespectLife,

Truly, we are sisters from different mothers!  One question:  What about the coordinating jewelry?  And don't forget all those "gift with purchase" thingies-- or are they included in the "General Makeup Uhaul?"

So true, so true!!

Collecting anything--no matter what the history or quality-- is going to be lost on the next generation, it seems.  Homes now are furnished in disposable IKEA-quality goods, or if what you have did not come from Pottery Barn (or look like it came from  Pottery Barn), forget it.

Part of the reason for "temporary" quality in home furnishings might have something to do with the fact that today's young people do not feel they will  be able to stay in one city or one home for a long time--and that probably has to do with the changing nature of jobs and our economy.

I dealt with a delightful couple yesterday who bought a very  high-quality bed frame from me, and we were commiserating on the taste-level of today's younger people, the low quality of imported furniture, etc.  The wife said she had turned over a  solid-wood dresser to one of her kids, but with the proviso that if it somehow was not wanted in the future, please return it to Mom.

That's how we older folks roll, I guess.

I'm having to turn loose of my long-time love affair with vintage glass, and the only thing that makes it not too hard is that I have no idea what I would do with it in the future except pack it, unpack it, find a place to store it, keep  it clean and unchipped.........and then what?.  That's what we have to ask ourselves, I guess.

Novamc,

You were right on with your comments about the disposable nature of our society today.  Quality seems to be vanishing in so many things.

I have a relative who just got rid of all their furniture when they moved because they did not want to deal with moving it.  The bought all new stuff when they got to their new place.  The thought of all that waste and expense would have my grandmother turning cartwheels in her grave!
